This pod reminded me of the problems ahead for those of us who live in Henderson, Nevada. As residents we have gotten used to the water restrictions as to when we can water lawns, wash cars, etc. and sometimes consider it a nuisance to follow rules set by the city. This is an issue that local, state and higher government should address.
The information presented was valuable and I would have liked to hear more.

consume, consume, consume!! That's all we do, we take and take till soon there will be nothing left. Do people really think there is just a endless supply of resources? Can we really be that stupid?

Very good work you guys. Isnt it ironic that one of the biggest water consumers in the nation would be located in the desert

This video especially intrigues me because it is not only focusing on a huge conflict, but it is very relevant to the future of Southern California as well, thats if the information you received is correct in the drought affecting all the western states. The information here is huge in terms of relevance and a great search for who knows what, and who can make an accurate prediction for us so that we can start moving to Canada. I finish watching the video wanting more information, and this is what draws viewers back to Current TV. Great job, and a star sticker to go along with it.

35% of all water used in a house goes to flush the toilet. Think what could be done if we used household gray water to flush instead. After all, I wasn't all that dirty when I got into the shower and when you consider it is flushing my crap away...... kind of makes gray water look down right clean.

It's good to be reminded of the issue but what solutions are being proposed? How do you combat water shortages? Can Vegas stop new developments until water demand is met?
Some districts in San Francisco require 1:1 parking per residential unit. Can something like this be done in Vegas?
I was born and raised in Lake Havasu City on the Colorado River. Not only is water shortage an issue, so is water quality. Less water flow means more bad stuff floating around.
How much of the solution is science, engineering, social or political?

I live in San Diego. Water shortage has been a local issue here for the past 10 years. Each year we receive less and less rain and more hot and dry winters. We have, however, began building water treatment plants and incorporated its jobs into community college classes. Still, it frightens me.

You know, this drives me crazy! What do Nevadans really expect? This city was built in a desert! Now, I grew up in Michigan so I really don't know about the hardships of living in a place with water restrictions, but there has to be a line between completely destroying the environment and people's enjoyment. I know that a couple years ago there was talk about piping water from the Great Lakes to the Southwest side of the US and people went completely nuts in Michigan. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next few years on this issue, especially since water shortage is a problem the world over.

Nice pod. Well produced. I especially liked to see how much water frivolously being used.
Good Work!

Great Pod - thanks for bringing up this very important issue. What can we do as West coast water users to reverse this before its too late?

Being an anthropologist I am confident that you are aware of the maya empire 'collapse.' One of the leading suspected causes is drought. Droughts that last for this amount of time can be tantamount to the Maya collapse. Nice clip by the way!
Does this mean we are all DOOMED?

great pod..... and to think it is a desert and people keep building homes and golf coarses and hotels....
