Approximately 500,000 coloured plastic balls thundered down Rome's famous Spanish Steps this week as activist artist Graziano Cecchini pulled off his second dazzling stunt in three months. City officials, charged with clearing away the balls, were nonplussed. eternallycool.net comments that the Italian word for balls, 'palle', also means untruths.

Back in October, Cecchini poured red industrial dye into the Trevi fountain, causing quite a stir.

While the red Trevi fountain can easily be labelled as vandalism, the plastic balls in Piazza di Spagna are a playful act of protest I'm rather amused by.
