Dr. Martin Luther King is honored on the same day as General Robert E. Lee. Yes, that's right, the leader of the Civil Rights Movement shares the same state holiday as the leader of the Confederate Army in the Civil War.

  • Historians fear that MLK's legacy is being lost, maybe its being replaced with Robert E. Lee's legacy.

  • Why would they need to celebrate Robert E. Lee's birthday? Okay, so he was a good general. Didn't do much for our country did he?

  • Well let's see, yep. Lee was celebrated before MLK Jr. So what's the big deal, what we can't pay tribute to both men. Sounds to me like some people just like to try and stir up racial tensions. That's not what we need thank you. Late Rip

  • Lee was not a man who looked at slavery as a right of the American people. He fought against 5the Union on a constitutional point that basicly said that the states had to subvert themselfs to a central government. He Might not have been the winner in 1865 but he was great for going with his principles. Hewas both a General and a statsman.
