Tim Floyd is a bad coach and a horrible man. Just do the right thing coach, follow the rules. For some reason I think that he thinks that "bailing out Mayo" means that this thing can just be swept under the couch. Oh well. We'll see.



USC coach takes heat for Mayo

USC Coach Tim Floyd said Wednesday that he told star freshman O.J. Mayo that he could accept free Lakers tickets and that if anybody should be punished for potential NCAA violations, it should be the coach. "My feeling is that if there's a mistake made, it was made by me," Floyd said. "If they want to suspend me for a game, suspend me for a game, but not the kid. He did the right thing." Floyd said he thought it was acceptable for Mayo to receive complimentary tickets from Denver Nuggets All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony, whom Mayo has known since the seventh grade, because the players were friends. Mayo attended the Lakers' 116-99 victory over the Nuggets on Monday at Staples Center.

  • Why does this make Tim F a bad man?

    In reading this ... OJ came to him and asked a question (proper ... player looks to coach to make sure everything is cool) ... Tim F should have checked with the compliance director, but instead told OJ the wrong information. So ... Tim fesses up and tries to take responsibility. In my world; standing up for your people is a virtue, not a sign of low moral character.

    Come on .... its not like Carmelo is trying to recruit OJ to Syracuse ... they have been friends for over 6 years. I am sure there may be some NCAA smack down, but lets wait till someone does something a bit more egregious than going to a laker game before calling out folks.

    Hell ... when I was a student I got free laker tickets from alumni friends ... and I was just an engineering geek ... its not that big a deal.

    The point is, why would Floyd jeopardize the future of the USC basketball team this year by engaging in something that is clearly illegal? It was a dumb move.

    We need USC to have all their players, at least until they beat UCLA again! Come on

    Did these morons really risk eiligibility and sanctions just so OJ could floss in good seats @ Staples that he got from his buddy 'Melo??

    I, too, hope that he's not ineligible so there are no excuses when UCLA goes into Galen and exacts some revenge.
