  • Thanks guys!
I admit I was tempted to go and see "Cloverfield" - mainly because of JJ Abrams' involvement - but after watching this, I'll definitely give it a miss.

  • It's "a very jarring true story"

whoever didn't see it should still go see it and make they're on opinions of it.

  • I love the movie review of Cloverfield -- great way of doing this with the group review - I think I will pass on seeing the actual movie now that I've heard the really sensitive, thought-provoking review by Melinda Hill and her friends. Great job, kids! Thanks for saving my money and time! MsIrish0077

  • Yes, this review tells you the whole movie, but that's the movie's fault for being so stupid and thin. Funny new people...love "this was a great documentary".
  • Ok, their testimonies were amusing. But if you're going to take a dumb blond's "fake" opinion of an engaging action movie, then you're just as dumb as her. The movie is simplistic in scope...giant monster attacks NYC. However, it's a movie unlike anything ever put on film before. You think that you are watching something that actually happened, with characters who you start to care about (except the guy holding the camera, who is a bit annoying but thankfully doesn't say much.) Listen, go see it for yourself and make ur own decision. Don't make ur decision based on about 13 people's biased opinions.

  • This is the best godzilla type movie I've ever seen...
    1. You feel like you're actually watching a home video of a terrifying situation... So the movie accomplished its main objective.....
    2. The monster was effectively shot until u saw him close up at the end... I'm not going to dismiss the movie as being a good monster movie for 4 seconds of the 90 minutes.....
    3. Wtf are people expecting when they go to see this movie.... I went in thinking it was gonna be a Day After Tomorrow movie (not knowing Blair Witch filming) and I was pleasantly surprised with it... I was entertained for 90 minutes and that's why we go to the movies

    I'd give it a 6.5/10

  • Kooberz wrote "The movie is simplistic in scope...giant monster attacks NYC. However, it's a movie unlike anything ever put on film before." Whoa! I gotta disagree there. We've seen EVERYTHING in this movie before. From Blair Witch to Independence Day to Armageddon. Like when they were in the NY subway tunnels (a scene that has been shot in 500 other movies) and they decide to turn on the nightvision -- and (right on cue) the instant they turn on the night vision we see the monsters coming to get them. Been there/Done that. (Anyone actually surprised that there were monsters now visible as soon as they turned on the nightvision?) And we're supposed to believe this is all real -- yet NO ONE with a camera seems to give a damn about the actual monster??? WTF? "There is a 50 foot monster in front of me but I refuse to film it for more than 5 secs! Nope. I would much rather spend the next 10mins filming my friends jumping from this boring rooftop to the next rooftop. Yes, I know there is a 50 ft monster right in front of me but I refuse to even turn my camera. Nope. Just gonna sit here and film my friends." And the "hero" doesn't care about the monster either? Oh, in case you forgot the "hero" is the genetically perfect 20-something with just the exact right amount of 5 o'clock shadow to prove that, yes, he's professional but he's also young and hip. Like us! We're supposed to believe that none of these people thought it was even slightly interesting that there is a monster in New York -- all they care about is rescuing the girl? Ha ha! This movie is a remarkable achievment in the sense that no other movie in history has managed to cram so many cliches (from generic, bland 20-something characters to generic, bland destruction of New York) into 90mins. Good job JJ.

  • I really liked the film, but I had to leave early because of the whole motion sickness problem. I was with my mom and we practically ran out of the theater and into the bathroom. I came VERY close to throwing-up. (like you needed to know that! Sorry)

  • crob80227 you took the words right out of my mouth. You will never feel like you are watching a home video of a terrifying situation...because you aren't. With years of America's Funniest Home Videos, yes the Blair Witch Project, and real 9/11 home videos, this movie is totally outdated. It couldn't suspend the reality of it being a fake home video for two seconds. The cliches were definitely to blame. If you are going to attempt this concept, you better make it pretty freaking unique, and it better have a solid story to fall back on. It was relying on concept...with nothing to back it up except a few action scenes (and plenty of motion sickness). This is the problem with Hollywood. They greenlight films based on concept and the talent (actors, directors) they can attach that will draw people to it on name alone. And unfortunately, millions of people time and time again go and see these crap fests, making it number one at the box office, and the cycle never stops. Boo.
  • The "Giant-Monster-Attacking-New York" idea goes at least as far back as Ghostbusters from 1984 (and, for older people much, much further back) What is so interesting to me is that Ghostbuster really was a groundbreaking an innovative movie for its time (and even now people still love it and talk about it). Ghostbusters has excellent writing and a innovative storyline -- Cloverfield, however, has a couple of good one-liners spread out over 90mins and no story whatsoever really. And look at the main characters from Ghostbusters! Bill Murray? Not your conventional leading man. Kind of ugly if we're being technical -- but certainly looks like you're average Joe on the street. Now look at Cloverfield's hep cats cast as "regular people." Yawn. Is this a movie about "real people" or a GAP ad from 1996? Ha ha! Sorry, but if we're trying for "real" let's hire some ugly people (gasp!) Want an excellent movie featuring a giant monster attacking New York. Netflix Ghostbusters again. Want to watch a really edgy GAP ad shot with a handheld camera? Go see Cloverfield.

  • I basically laughed and puked my way through this movie. It would be pretty unfortunate for an alien or whatever to destroy NY.

  • I liked the movie, and I actually enjoyed listening to the music too ...mmm... MUCC
  • First of all, let me say, good movie. It was pretty entertaining. I still can't quite tell if I agree with it or not. I mean yeah, the movie was unbelievably shaky, but what else would be more real? And I agree about the monster, I think it could've been a bit cooler, don't ask me how.

I guess overall I would recommend that everyone see it at least once, it's worth the excitement.
