    The Onion is a bunch of very smart looneys out of Madison, Wisconsin, a college "Mecca", who specialize in the dryest of humor regarding daily life. They can swing from celebrating the mundane to slamming a false idol or two. They've were at it for years with a free newspaper you could (and can) pick up at a variety of outlets and, in the past couple decades, have been skewering Mass Media on their excellent website.
    They also have the "AV Club" where they do slightly more serious reviews of books, films, music and the like.
