Melissa Arrington, 27, killed a cyclist in 2006 whilst drunk at the wheel of her car. She was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison after prosecutors played a tape at her sentencing of a jail-house phone call she had with a friend where she jokes about the killing. The judge called conversation "breathtaking in its inhumanity.''

That's sick. What a world we live and die in.
-
lawl at that lady/.'
=D -
Every first sympathy must be for the family of the victim. At minimum, this woman should never be allowed to drive again.
That said however, my heart goes out to her too. I'd hate to be judged by the worst phone conversation of my life. -
I wonder what the sentence would've been without that tape? What's taking a life worth in years served these days?
-
i'm sickened that she'd laugh about something as horrible as that! i mean how callous and inhuman do you have to be to do that?!! If i accidentally killed someone with my car, even if there was nothing i could have done and they were totally at fault, i'd be bawling my eyes out and NEVER ever forgive myself

If people were not incarcerated for the wrongs they, themselves did, there would be absolutely NO calm in our society.
To laugh at killing someone is no laughing matter.
In law enforcement, you are taught to use fatal force as the last option. I don't know any officer that EVER laughed about it after having to use it.
The sentence is too short !!!!-

Taking somebody's life by accident must be one of the toughest experiences anyone can ever go through. Perhaps her mental state is a little more fragile than anyone's giving her credit for? People deal with things in bizarre ways - it's lucky our brains have such efficient coping mechanisms.

This kind of thing makes me feel sick, the whole idea of prison is to serve time for your crime and then face rehabilitation.
Laughing at the crime you've committed is disgraceful, surely this shows an unrepentent criminal who should be allowed no early release and a lifetime ban from owning any transport at all, make her walk everywhere, should give her time to think about the cyclist she killed whilst drink driving. -
She deserves exactly what she is getting and then more. I'm sorry - I'm sorry - I didn't mean to - it wasn't really my fault - I'll never do it again -BULL----!!!!!!!
You folks that cry for those that have done wrong and are being punished - make me a little ill. Cry for those that haven.t done anything wrong and are having a very hard time. direct your energy to a positive place.
Yes if you continue to see it your way, you can kiss -- ---.-

Actually my friend, it wasn't directed at you. Since you opened your mouth and stuck your foot in it, now it is.
Get a job , get a life and for Gods' sake understand the reality of life. I guarantee you, if you do the crime, somehow, someway, you'll do the time.
Now go smoke your shit and have a nice night.-

It seems like everyone is having way too much fun with drinking and what happens when you do it. This lady is probably proud she has a cool drinking story to tell.
