Manouchehr Mottaki, the Iranian foriegn minister has urged the UN to re-consider it's latest resolution designed to impose strict sanctions on Iran. The timing of the resolution seems to be strange; it's been put forward before the IAEA have even finished their second report on Iran's Nuclear plans - a report due very soon.
Their last report concluded that Iran was not trying to develop a Nuclear weapon and that it's Nuclear ambitions were entirely peaceful. Despite this it seems that the UN security council want to send out a clear message. Mottaki, amongst others, believe that this latest resolution is an attempt to lobby support against Iran.

The Guardian also reports today that President Ahmadinejad has announced an upcoming visit to Iraq, making him the first Iranian leader since the revolution to visit Baghdad. No firm date has been agreed.
The reach-out would present a huge breakthrough in relations between the two countries, which fought an eight-year war in the 1980s that cost hundreds of thousands of lives. It would also represent a challenge to American influence in Iraq, at a time when the US and Iran are vying for regional supremacy.-

Iran is part of the global resistance to Zionism and imperialism. It is only natural that Tel Aviv and DC would pull out all the stops to weaken it her. But, G-d willing, it the attempts will continue to fail.
