  • Apparently President Bush will focus on the economy and has turned a sharp eye towards eliminating congressional earmarks.

Does the Iraq war count as a presidential earmark that Congress can cut?

  • I'm going to miss those jerks. On Super News. They so funny!

  • I'll celebrate by watching a dvd of Sinead O'Connor in concert, then watch the, so called, speech highlights on one of those, "It's all important because we say so.", news channels. Sorry. "West Wing" is on Bravo. I love great fiction. Gotta go.

  • Comedy Central....or State of the Union...darn, can't decide which will be funnier! Guess it's back to the old "nothing's on" selections: Discovery or History Channel or the new (trying to be hip) Nat G O!

  • I'll watch it....(for laughs)
isn't this the picture of him in some country in Asia trying to get out of the room and he pulled at the wrong damn door and he feels like an idiot, so he makes this face while surrounded by cameras. He still thinks we're laughing WITH him. Poor guy.

  • jdchristianson: You must have missed that entertaining news item when it came out with that picture (great photographer!). Our fearless idiot was on a sabre rattling mission to Asia (I think) and while trying to make a Presidential exit through the doors in the photo to get away from the badgering press corps, the door wouldn't open....and the photographer just happened to be in the right place at the right time for the Presidential reaction.

  • Have any of his State of The Unions deviated from the script? First, he'll say America is awesome (applause). Then he'll say the troops are awesome (applause). Then he'll say that we're winning in Iraq (pre-recorded applause will play for 2 mins as camera pans to audience glaring at Bush in mute rage). Then Bush will say that the national economy is 100 percent rock solid with over 10 million new jobs being added every single day and the average median income in America is hovering around $300,000 (Bush will pause briefly to see if anyone laughs out loud -- will probably push "applause" button just in case). He will then begrudgingly admit that, like all economies, our is suffering a slight "hiccup" that might/possibly put some pressure on a few dozen very poor family members. He will then explain that his solution to give everyone in America a check for $300 is not socialism or "income distribution" but actually in keeping with sound priciples of pure free market capitalism (laughter will be so intense that Bush will pause for 3mins before it subsides). Bush will then explain that people are to use that redistributed money, er, I mean, use their "free market capitalism enhancement checks" to immediately buy shit which Bush assures us will create job here in the States. At this point someone will interrupt Bush and explain that almost ALL consumer goods are manufactured in China and Vietnam and that increased production will only create more factories in China, not actually create any new jobs here in the States. Bush will then stare blankely into the cameras for a full 8 mins. Panicked Senate members will start to think the President has had a stroke when at last he speaks. "I've just been told that there is a flaw in my stimulus package. Apparently employment will only increase in China if we spend $300 each. To correct this problem I am going to....increase the checks to $400! That will solve the problem. Thank you and goodnight!"

  • I'm interested in hearing whether or not he admits to doing anything wrong for once.

I'm going to be watching this at least twice. One tonight, and one at school I'm sure.

  • Thank you to all of you who visit and post on this site. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one without my head up my ass. Progressive people are the future! As far as W's speech, I too will watch this evening while working on a buzz. Nothing more entertaining than watch an incompetent war criminal embarrass himself in front of billions of viewers.

  • the fact that it's his 'final' state of the union address makes me happy.

  • Even though you may thing the photo above is fake. Bush actually did that face in an embarrassing visit to China. Very sad day for Americans

  • interim observations: clearly the buzz words from the speech writers this time around are "TRUST" and "EMPOWER." He used these to introduce every topic....and each time it sounded as if he was saying "not our problem (gov'ts)"....as in we must trust and empower you folks to fix your own problems.

  • Be sure to watch the HBO documentary tomorow night "Baghdad Hospital: Inside the Red Zone" and keep in mind while viewing it what the President said tonight in his State of the U about how much the Iraqis love us being there, realize we are helping them, and want us to stay there until all the terroriists are gone and justice has prevailed.

  • just a quick question - to make sure i am understanding this:

pres bush wants to spend 300 million for private schools? and by private schools that is obviously relgious schools? correct? he didn't make any proposals about public school systems?
    tresbe1n
  • That pissed me off. There was maybe one good thing he said in that entire speech, but I honestly don't remember what it was. Just pretty much slapping the democrats in the face the entire time, "yeah, you guys send me your bills and i'll give them back with my veto"

    SLAPINTEHFACEEEE.

  • i know that most democrats are strongly against nuclear power, but i am not. that was probably the only the thing that i didn't complain about. the school thing outraged me.
    tresbe1n
  • Fatten private schools?
Re-invest in public schools with smaller #'s of kids in each room so everyone has a voice.
Pay the teachers what they deserve so no child gets "left behind" for saying, "New-cuh-ler".
How hard is that to figure out?
Good riddance. I hope Bush's legacy comes complete with Impeachment.
