Forget your A-levels. McDonald's is now an exam board. The fast food giant has won approval to offer its staff courses in burger bar management, marketing and human resources, that would be the equivalent of A-level standards. This is the first time that commercial company "has been allowed to award nationally recognised qualifications based on its own work-place training schemes." It will be up to the universities and admissions whether the McDiploma courses will be sufficient preparation for undergraduate study.
According to this BBC article, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7209276.stm, this follows concerns that the lack of workforce skills among Britain's youth is related to the fact that schools, colleges and universities are not providing practical training needed for the world of work.
Do you think that a McDiploma should be given the same recognition as A-levels?
