Bush delivers final State of the Union address

President Bush said in his last State of the Union address Monday night that while the country has made good progress, "we have unfinished business before us, and the American people expect us to get it done."

The president said the "collective wisdom of ordinary citizens" is the most "reliable guide for our country."

"To build a prosperous future, we must trust people with their own money and empower them to grow our economy," he said.

Bush said that although the "economy is undergoing a period of uncertainty," the American people "can be confident about our economic growth" in the long run.

He also urged the passage of economic stimulus plan -- as is, without additions, to make tax cuts permanent.

Bush also says he will issue executive order aimed at defeating pork-barrel "earmarks" and insists the "surge" in Iraq working.

  • I Just watched it and all I heard was a dumb and deafening "blah blah blah, don't worry everything will be fine, keep shopping, let us wire tap you, and we will save your fetuses and kill our enemies."

    Be sure to watch the HBO documentary tomorow night "Baghdad Hospital: Inside the Red Zone" and keep in mind while viewing it what the President said tonight in his State of the U about how much the Iraqis love us being there, realize we are helping them, and want us to stay there until all the terroriists are gone and justice has prevailed.

  • Did anyone else notice the repeated use of "we trust and empower____to___" and each time the veiled meaning implied a passing of the buck to the parties or issue being discussed? Beyond that, it was the same old misrepresentations, half truths, lies, and Party propaganda. I took word for word notes in a summmary of all of them but Current has a word limit to postings so can't post them all.

  • The man scares me! He truly does. While I heard his Golden Oldies" let me tell them again items..

    Here is what scared me... He wants the Telecoms to be given immunity for allowing wiretapping by the Goverment without a court order. This is illegal, and the telecoms should have said.. NO.

    The other item, is the "ecomnomic revitalization bill". We are going to have to raise the defict (read borrow the money) to pay for it. How will this help the economy? Most people will either use it to pay old debts, or to buy new stuff that's made in China.. where will be borrowing the money from in the first place.

    Spare us all from 4 more years of any more Republican leadership.
