In Signing statement, Bush looks to bypass four laws - Nancy Pelosi objects!

It's about time!

"I reject the notion in his signing statement that he can pick and choose which provisions of this law to execute," said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California. "His job, under the Constitution, is to faithfully execute the law - every part of it - and I expect him to do just that."

I have been waiting for her to object! She's the leader! She should lead! Make him take back the signing statement. If it is in any way contrary to the spirit of the Constitution, she should be calling for hearings to address the issue. WE THE PEOPLE are the ones the Constitution is supposed to represent! I voted for the Democrats to represent me! Signing statements are wrong. The President should not be above the law! It’s an ‘Assault on Reason’!

  • Wasn't Nancy Pelosi the one who said that it wasn't any of the tax-payers business how our tax dollars are being spent? She needs to go back and check out what HER Constitutional responsibilities are, and to learn what HER place in the overall scheme of things is, before she goes shootin' her fat mouth off about things beyond her intellectual or political capacity! Give a woman an inch, and she wants all 10!

  • If we the people are paying for it it is our right and duty to know what any moneys that are spent are for. It just makes us more intellegent and knowlegeable about how our politicians are using we the people. My father told me one day that it is none of my buisness what the govenment does or does not chose to tell us because they are supossed to be smarter than we are. I disagree with him on the point that ignorence is bliss.

  • You are absolutely right! It is our political responsibility to know whats going on in Washington, because WE the people are the accountability for these "smarter than thou" asshole politicians! This is OUR country, we own it, lock, stock and barrel, and no degree of political ignorance can be justified!

  • It's "we the people, for the people and by the people."

Those of you who believe they are any smarter than the rest of us, well than some of us, are wrong. Very often, they are just regular fools in nice suits. Don't be fooled be pompous and ceremony.

trooper - let's stay objective now. Nancy Pelosi isn't perfect, but she - we are way better off than that corrupt Newt Gingrich fool of fools.

    GO NANCY!!

  • Conniepae, you are exactly right. It's about damn time someone stood up to Bush and his unpresedented use of signing statments. When the American Bar Association condemnes the use of signing statements as "contrary to the rule of law and our constitutional separation of powers, you know something is wrong. Bush is like a child that is always testing his parents to see what he can get away with. Its time to stop him before he does any more damage.

  • VoyagerFilms, you're absolutely right about that! Thanks for your response! I'd rather have Nancy any day over that guy, she's done a lot for the progression of the American woman, and that is something to admire.

  • Nancy Pelosi isn't perfect, but she’s what we have. We need to let the Democrats know we are not giving them a free pass for today, hoping for tomorrow. Our elected representatives need to know what they do today will propel their careers into the future. Not talk. Talk is cheap! Obama and Hillary are the Presidential candidates we have been given. If they want our votes in the general election they need to know, they are Senators now! We need their representation and voices today! Our Constitution and Country is in their hands. They are being paid to speak for us! My money is not being well spent. I have watched my money being wasted while they are campaigning. They are not on the Senate floor, doing their jobs. They missed votes, they don't use their voices to stop the concessions to George W. George W. has gotten far too much with a Democratic Congress and Senate.
George W.'s own people have written books, no one has investigated? How can this happen, facts are written down and ignored by the ones who we pay to investigate. Do they think that they don't have to worry to get our votes? They do!

  • Good Luck Nancy. You took impeachment off the table so now he is totally out of control. Now try to rein him before he ignores more laws or decides to attack Iran. You are months too late.
  • Why is it that Congress has given bush soo much power? Why is it whatever he asks for they give him. What a bunch of wuss's we have in congress, they have allowed him to run unchecked for almost 8 years straight, what the hell did they expect? They have allowed him to put this country TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, they have constantly approved every bill for the war asking for more money, congress and the house raised no objections to the Military Commissions Act, the American Defense Act etc, etc, and now they object. Bush must have some pretty heavy shit on these people, or the american public has elected in the dumbest sons of bitches into office EVER!

  • They are afraid of how they will look to the voters if they don't fund the military. Personally I think if they are that stupid they need replaced.
  • etosha_pent, one would wonder if George W. put his illegal wiretapping to use on our Democratic representatives first. He did wiretap the UN, I wouldn't put it past him to start with Congress and Senate. Something has worked to silence the voices of the people who elected them. I'm sure it's not George W.'s good intentions for us, I would imagine it's much deeper than we are led to believe. They aren't giving him everything for nothing, are they? Or have they been bought?
    Conniepae
  • I really don't know if they have been bought or not. Congress and the House always sit there and talk about how they are against the war, against all these new bills, against torture, yet somehow these laws just keep getting passed through. Maybe everyone is just that spineless. All i know is that it is ridiculous! We as a country need to rise up against this war monger and they need to hear our voices. We used to be a country that stood up and let the government know what we thought, now it is like a bunch of placid sheep waiting for the slaughter.

  • Perhaps they see the potential of simply replacing these so called leaders with people who might truly lead from their own party like Obama or Clinton.

It will be the independents and those who have voted for this very same current so called, leadership that they feel they must win over. it is important to remember that many millions supported these so called leaders in the past. These are the very people that must hope to won over with the coming election.

That might be better done with a landslide victory for the two remaining leadership roles and a majority in the senate.

This is not a short term game but rather a long term ordeal that might best be played by the change in Americans wishing to vote for long term change and true meaningful representative leadership.
