UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon throws his heavyweight diplomatic clout on Friday behind efforts to end Kenya's month-long violent political standoff in which at least 850 people have been killed.

African leaders at a summit in neighboring Ethiopia attended by the U.N. head have called for urgent action to stop the bloodletting, which has turned one of the continent's more stable nations into its most pressing crisis.

    • all i can do is become numb,
my vote really does not make a difference
and 38,000 children die of hunger a day on that side.
so what can i say, not much.
      but try not to complain.

    • The situation in Kenya is dire. The US envoy to Africa has said ethnic cleansing is taking place, and in the third biggest city in Kenya this has all but happened. Take a look at the story and thread here. I still can't believe that the US wouldn't back her statements and said they needed more documentation of the atrocities before being able to call it true 'ethnic cleansing.' How much more evidence do they need?
