For center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.

Incredible! We got one of the top 20 players in the league for a rookie, Kwame Brown and a bucket of chicken! This is incredible!
Kupchak just pulled off a Jerry West level heist...he's learned well.
Think about our starting 5 now once Bynum comes back:
C - Bynum
F - Gasol
F - Odom
G-Kobe
G - Fisher/Farmar
Holy crap, who is touching us now? How you do match up wtih us? You don't! -
yes that lineup looks impressive, but I think this 'heist' talk is a bit premature until we get some more more details on that bucket of chicken...
-
the key will be if gasol can stay healthy .. mainly in the playoffs
-
I'm not sure if this comes close to matching the C-Webb signing by the Warriors.
Warriors fans, I hope you still believe (yeah, believe that the gap between you and the top of the Western Conference just widened even further...enjoy the 8th seed or the lottery!)-

A healthy Laker line-up has to be the HANDS DOWN favorite to win the title. Look at that lineup! This is the most awesome thing to happen to the Lakers since i don't what. I knew i should've paid the futures bet in vegas when i had the chance.
-
To win the title? Please. The Western Conference Playoffs are going to be one of the best in a long time. There's a lot of "ifs" with the Lakers this year and like jcrary said it's their health. Odom, Bynum, and Gasol have all been hurt this year. They're definitely a lot for the playoffs and a nice seeding, but a championship. No way.
-
@dalan/crary - you guys are being short-sighted here. This isn't a move about this year...this is really for the future. Title expectations are unreasonable this season - but should be starting next year. All of the these guys are young and entering their primes...and they're all locked up with contracts.
In addition to that starting five above, here's how deep we are: Luke, Farmar, Ariza, Sasha, Radmanovic.
That's a solid bench. We can go out and find a much cheaper and more effective backup than Kwame b/c he was a backup at best. Not his fault MJ was dumb enough to draft him #1. Good riddance to dead weight. I hope Memphis enjoys the cap relief they get with his expiring deal.-

Mr. Dobalina, you're right. Completely right. This season, a title is unreasonable, however. And that was my point. We actually could be seeing the beginnings of a Lakers/Celtics rivalry again.
-
Wouldn't that be spectacular. Lakers/Celtics! It gives me goosebumps. But lets talk about the title. The idea I put forth above says "A HEALTHY Laker line up has to be the hands down favorite." I mean, who could be better than those five and as deep as that bench? You have a very solid defensive team a very efficient offense and a guy who can win the game at the end. We know that Bynum is hurt and could be out until the end of the year but come on guys can't a guy dream? If we have everyone healthy by the opening tip in the playoffs i'll challenge all of you to bet on a team you think has a better chance of winning the cup
-
I'm sure the "powers that be" would love a Boston/LA rivalry again... but what looks good on paper doesn't always work out due to chemistry.... let's watch for a few weeks and see...
-
It's been my dream for years to see the Lakers/Celtics rivalry back in full force. When we were winning titles with the Shaq/Kobe teams, it felt a little less satisfying that we had to beat the likes of: Philly, Indiana & New Jersey. Uggh.

Looks like Ray Ratto sees it the same way:
"Chris Webber is already yesterday's news, and he hasn't even had his first new today yet...So it is that the Warriors belatedly unveiled their newest civilian, Mayce Christopher Webber, on the same day that the Los Angeles Lakers became major players again by collecting Pau Gasol from Memphis in what is a cap room/salary dump of galactic proportions. It is one whose ripples will wash back upon the Warriors sooner rather than later."-

I'm just excited to see how well Pau plays on a good team.
Looks like we are going to have a chance to find out. -
even though it was a smart move i think that the play of either gasol or bynum will dramatically decrease, since those two guys thrive on being around the basket the whole time. i love kobe but it will only work if kobe keeps passing and gasol extends his range and game.
