You have heard of the Rwanda genocide, but what is happening now? Santa Barbara Middle School had a "Ride For Rwanda" fundraiser today starting at Goleta Beach. With a nice 9 mile bike ride, this gathering is in support of Rwandan Coffee farmers. The students, faculty, and alumni are raising funds and awareness to help purchase the tools necessary for these farmers. Check out the hot bike designed and built by Tom Ritchey!

Interviewees in order of appearance:
Ralph Fertig (Pres. Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition), Dan Seachord (SBMS), Jacob Seigel Boettner (Event Creator), and Tom Ritchey (Bike Maker).

School Rep. Dick Davidson (SBMS)

  • Great job James! Cool to see how you turned a walk along the beach into a really interesting project (Lesson #1 of Current filmmaking: keep an eye out for stories wherever you go!). If this is what you can do on such a short turnaround, I'm really excited to see how your full-on pods develop!

  • What a great story you came across. You did a great job of telling the story on the fly with no preparation. GREENLIGHT.

  • i like this pod a lot, aside from the very robotic narration in the beginning.

  • This video is informative, directive and demonstrates a wonderful refreshing human response to the needs of others. What better way than to put ones beliefs into action!

There was a wonderful portrayal of energy in this video seen in the interviews, the number of people who attended the event, and in the way the video was edited.

I would like to know how the race ended!

  • Great start!

I agree with sabki that the narration in the beginning is a little robotic, in fact I may cut the narration all together, try replacing it with text cards layered over a dimmed still from the piece with some driving music, sometimes that makes it shorter, more to the point and more striking.

  • The end was kind of abrupt, but knowing that this was all done on the fly is very impressive. Great work pulling this together through improvisation. I'm impressed.

  • Some improvements, but good!

  • Good work here, but it left me feeling a bit let down, like we never got past the beginning. I'd have like to see footage of the actual biking to begin with, then adding a voice over interview explaining why they're doing it. A point of view shot from the bicycle would have had lots of energy, and it seems like you could have hopped on the back of that Rwandan bike and gone along!
