Yet another obstacle has arisen in the efforts to calm the unrest in Kenya and begin putting a stop to the brutal violence that the country has seen since the start of the new year.This comes mere days after Kenyan opposition leaders called for the African Union to send peace-keepers to help try and stem the violence that has been sparked by the country's disputed presidential election.
Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki put a stop Cyril Ramaphosa' expected role as an organiser of day to day mediation talks, as he is believed to have business links the opposition leader, Raila Odinga.
I can understand why Kibaki could have reservations about the role of the ex-UN mediator, but something needs to be implemented soon, otherwise the death toll is sure to continue to rise.

Indeed the death toll continues to rise. The Red Cross is reporting that it has topped 1,000, many thousands have been injured and around 304,000 people have been left homeless.
