Heavy cannabis use damages gums!

Gum disease, one of the most common diseases of adulthood, is the second most common cause of tooth loss, after tooth decay.

It has long been linked to cigarette smoking, but this is the first study to look specifically at cannabis.

The researchers accepted that cannabis users also tended to smoke tobacco.

However, they said that even after allowing for this, heavy cannabis smokers had three times the risk of having established gum disease by the age of 32.

Even cannabis users who did not smoke tobacco developed gum disease.

Overall, 29% of the sample showed some signs of gum disease.

  • It's not the substance- it's the smoke. You could be a heavy lavendar smoker and you would get gum disease. And lung disease. and resparitory problems.

  • You are right on that one. I agree that it is the smoke.

I have found that smoking interferes with lung function and capacity; especially when you are singing.

  • I'm with Thargo, it's all correlational, just because people with gum disease smoke marijuana doesn't mean it causes it any more than their other vices. it's like saying the decrease in the worlds population of pirates in causing global warming!

    Big up vaporizers! much healthier.

  • first marijuana made you "crazy" in the 1930s now it causes gum disease? marijuana is the cleanest mind altering substance you could ever come across, and yes even cleaner than alcohol.

Here is what I think. Marijuana was made illegal in the 1930's because of the immigrants coming up from the south. The mexican farmers used to smoke it after a hard day of work so we took it from them. The gov. could never admit to that so it stays illegal. same with opium and cocaine, however i dont think those should be legal do to the damage that they actually do cause... you catch my drift.
