The BBC is axing cult children's drama Grange Hill after 30 years. Over the years, the long-running show, set in a fictional London school, covered a number of hard-hitting storylines, such as racism, child abuse, teenage pregnancy and a boy named Zammo doing lots of heroin.
The controller of CBBC said the iconic cult classic is being dropped as part of a move to more accurately represent kid's lives today.

Grange Hill has been a British institution for years, it provided millions of kids something to relate to, and has been a great way, as Rich mentions, of highlighting controversial stories that need to be shown to kids. I just wonder how children will be shown similar issues in the future, Hollyoaks and the like just don't seem to have the same 'umph' that Grange HIll used to pack.
I'll miss Grange Hill, not necessarily for the storylines anymore, more for the best soundtrack ever - check the links for the old school (pun completely intended) and the 90's refix.

So, does that mean it's NOW going to show a load of racist CHAVs yelling repeats at each other?...Oh yeah, that's a lot more entertaining for ou 11 year olds.
