Every year, animal shelters in California euthanize 500,000 dogs and cats. Los Angeles city council passed a law requiring mandatory spay/neuter . This law is modelled on a California law making its way through the legislative process - the California Healthy Pets Act, which would require mandatory spay/neuter for all pets -- with some notable exceptions, such as show dogs, service dogs, police dogs, etc. But backyard breeding will no longer be allowed! The number of animal lives this bill would save if passed is tremendous. Finally, a real solution to the terrible shame of pet overpopulation and euthanasia.
