Fashion trends are driving the industry toward super skinny models, or as Guy Trevay says, "the man of the moment is an urchin, a wraith or an underfed runt."
Male models used to be beefy, they could fill out a pair of Calvin Klein underwear like no other. Now, clothes are tailored to the super slim, leaving us wondering if these poor people have ever eaten a french fry.

Bring back the buffed up male models! Ahh, Marky Mark. These wafer thin male models are like the heroine chic models, whose only purpose is to make healthy (sometimes curvy) people feel inadequate.

It's really all about your preferred asthetics. When you showcase something you have designed, you select models that relate to your customer, along with your current ideals of beauty. I think it just means the social ideals are changing. Besides these are the works of artists.. Lots of artists find beauty dark and twisted things.. Think of imagining a light while being stuck in the dark.

Is this the "preferred aesthetics" you refer to?

I think those boys are cute, but cute in a very "I am 17 and haven't filled out just yet" kind of way. In other words, I wouldn't want to get with them. Now, those guys in the Armani underwear ads, on the other hand...

hahaha, Not exactly. He is quite the character.
AND that's straight live raw comedy. -
i don't find this attractive at all. they look sickly, and easily breakable. i am a huggy person, and i don't like to feel your ribs when i hug ya.
these guys almost look like Christian Bale in The Machinist, a movie in which he plays a sick man who hasn't slept in years.-

hey im in my early 20's and am "skinny" but fit. i think we're just as hot, and we're better lays! (bigger appendages)

Julie,
You bring an interesting point to the table, through your jest. Are there underlying pedophiliac messages, by using such skinny and underdeveloped models? -
This is so true. Quite a few labels and designers such as Marc Jacobs and Diesel are using super slim males as their fit models of choice. Leaving those who work out like myself and who enjoy the styles out in the cold. This is also the case with such chains as Armani Exchange. It's a trend that more and more designers are leaning towards. Yes, it's true they are designing for a specific market and unfortunately it's begining to lead to a trend amongs males that has affected women for so many years...the desire to be super slim.

the beefy CK models are underwear models. this is very different to a catwalk model. look at women's underwear models generally more hips and chest than a catwalk model. models are chosen to suit.
some people are naturally thin. i'm pretty skinny. i'm 6 ft and only weigh 9st 8lbs but i'm perfectly healthy and normal. some people just are skinny. some people aren't. with both men and women.-
