Brrrrr...... It's cold in here...

In a statement that hints at Cold War era rhetoric, Russian President Vladimir Putin reinforced his opposition to the West increasing the number of weapons installations near the Russian border, labeling it a new "arms race," and vowed to keep up by developing "new weapons that are qualitatively the same or better than those of other countries."

Mr. Putin also says the West should mind its own business and has long been opposed to other nations interfering with his country's policies. He denounced both the U.S. and NATO for putting political pressure on Russia, calling interference in domestic political fights both immoral and illegal.

  • does anyone ask why we even "need" more weapons installations near russian borders? I know the US wouldn't sit idly by if that was happening near *our* own borders...say, Cuba, for instance...(does anyone remember the bay of pigs?)

why does US foreign policy feign such stupidity, only to blame Putin for "Cold War rhetoric"? does US hypocrisy know no limits? or is it really untrue that the US is indeed and in fact increasing the number of weapons installations, and putin is merely propogandizing and fabricating out of thin air complaints that the US is meddling...for no reason other than to propogandize?

frankly, if other countries confirm Putin's accusations, and knowing what liars we have in our own government it's hard to believe that putin, whatever you may think of him personally, could be so completely wrong... and also knowing how covert our government has been in the past without the full knowledge, consent or support of the american taxpayer.... (we know if uncle sam has been an inciteful sob in the world, it certainly wouldn't be the first time...we've no further to look than the bogus incident with Iran that bush egregiouisly tried to push)

wish we could count on some truly objective journalism but since that's definitely outside the pervue of our spineless mainstream media...who can we trust to know the truth???

Totally agreed. My point in posting this was the mere idea that it could happen all over again. I, for one, believe that another arms build-up should be an issue for both sides - especially for a Russia that seems to want to stand on its own.

Regardless, there has been no discussion of deterrents. And, fortunately, when it comes to using arms, there is a huge incentive to keep the safety on the trigger.

The rhetoric from the West has been just as cold as the rhetoric from the East.
