A survivor of Hurricane Katrina cries as Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, speaks at Tulane University on February the 7th, 2008 in New Orleans. The Louisiana presidential primary is being held tomorrow, on February 9th.

This is an extremely touching, heart-rending photograph presented for you in stunning high-resolution, which is accompanied by music audio (Josh Groban:You Raise Me Up).

  • And what has he done while in Congress to help this woman? Where has he spoken out about the levees before this? About poverty? He is only mentioning the word now because he wants John Edwards' endorsement. And please, using this photo and this woman's grief with music for a desired emotional effect is a cheesy political tactic in my view. The woman has reason to cry... The government which includes the Congress Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain sits in FAILED HER. And of course, they also aren't for impeaching the man who lied to this country to get this war that took National Guard troops away from Louisiana when they were needed the most. But let's not let reality and reason overtake our emotional reactions since they have served us so well in the past.

  • first off, are you even from new orleans or are you just speaking on our behalf?
the damage is done and the blame can be handed out to all levels of govenment...its been over 2 yrs and not much has improved, lets focus on that!
right now, my city (new orleans) needs leadership and a plan to at least get us back to where we were pre-k. the only other candidate who has talked more about the south is john edwards and he dropped out.
gore seems is too busy making money off of global warming to run for the postition of president.
also, up until now the democrats have only had command of congress by a few seats. once they get a better grasp, things better start changing...
obama is not to blame for katrina.
bush, fema and the state and local govt, along with the army corp. of enginners who built our faulty levee system are who is at fault...bottom line.

  • I agree Gregorhazy, because there's only so much anyone can do. In addition, let's remember that like it or not, these guys have to play games. This is something I've come to realize. Imagine if the whole Senate were republican, and there was one voice saying, "we need to do something about...", where would they get? Arguably, no where. That's not to say they shouldn't try, but let's not get to crazy on those who WOULD do something given the opportunity. I understand being angry. I'm angry too. I'm outraged, and heart broken. But let's put blame where it belongs, and more importantly, lets show our candidates how much we want attention to be cast on New Orleans. Before we cast blame, we need to take a proactive approach, demanding change. I'm not seeing that happen. It's only a fringe minority who is standing up and saying ANYTHING. Take to the streets. Don't pay taxes. If you can, don't go to your job. Peaceful protest. PROTEST. PROTEST. PROTEST. That's the answer.
