What happens to American secondhand clothes? This short film follows donated used clothing from the United States to Haiti, where it becomes "pepe."
Our movie is a conversation about "pepe," the Haitian Creole word for "secondhand goods." We took a radio broadcast and interwove it with live footage from our trip to Haiti to create a patchwork of voices, coming together to make sense of the pepe phenomenon. For Haitians in the age of globalization, it's all pepe all the time.

This is probably one of my favorite pods that I've watched. I love that it opens and closes with the DJ's voice on the radio. It's effective that we never see his face. Because we don't see his face he serves as a mediator and facilitator for the discussion about "pepe" instead of just one character. Also, I liked hearing the radio listeners call in while I saw the footage of what they're talking about. The montage of seeing the pepe unload in bales was awesome and broke up the piece well. It let the images speak for themselves for a bit. The sound bytes were chosen very well. I understand what pepe is and that the people of Haiti have a love/hate relationship with it. It provides them with affordable clothing but it interferes with their commercial market and forces them to compromise many of their traditional values. Awesome pod!

So what is your stance? Do you agree with seamstress that this is a possible damaging thing, or a good thing for the country?
At least the clothes are not going into a land fill.-

Pepe is great - I've been buying clothes at the Goodwill and Salvation Army for years. It's another form of recyclling - good for Pepe's!!
Great pod.
