Whether in the Colombian countryside before the rebels forced his family to leave, or the city slum where his family now lives, Andrés Tabares has always had a way with words. In Andrés' barrio where "social cleansing" groups wage war, this 13 year-old writes and performs rap to speak out against violence . . . and people are listening. He now hosts his own Saturday morning variety show on Colombian national television.

I thought this was a very inspiring pod as well. I think Andres' role and how he feels about society was depicted very well. He was defnitely a character you just felt you had to like and I quickly gravitated to him with the brief, yet subtle, humor he had in the beginning with his nicknames. I thought the piece worked well and had smooth transitions. It also worked well because it took me somewhere. I was able to explore and see life from Andres' eyes. However there were some parts that were slow and weren't necessary to tell the story, possibly get to some points quicker. I like how we saw Andres struggle with adapting to city life, as opposed to the country. Some of the extra graphics were a little much, but was a nice touch in some places. Like the beginning for example. Overall, great job!

what a culture of unrestrained oppression, violence...and poverty it seems. "andres" has quite a keen mind too though (a diamond in the rough I think). in time he'll succeed in shifting a lot of that public focus from hate and fear to more hopeful possibilities, and a better reality people can live to fight for.
Rap on, rap on lil bro... -
this is a great pod! It reminds us to cherish our freedom of expression. Which is something many of us take for granted. Colombia's president unfortunately doesn't feel the same way...

I hope he gets to do big things!

I think this pod was a captivating and honest reflection of what is happening in Colombia. It's so wrong that people are stripped of their rights and property but it's a sad reality. However -I loved the tone of this pod, it is optimistic, inspirational and a work of art. It manages to keep a tone of hope as the story is told. GREAT WORK. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
