In today's "information age," data is linked together to form an incredibly complex Web. But who really organizes all this data?

This Current Click is one of the most widely viewed viral videos on the Internet. It raises the question: are we using the Web ... or is the Web using us?

  • I remember seeing this when it did the rounds on the internet and being totally amazed by it. It puts us all in a historical context before history has had a time to be re-discovered! A bit exciting if you ask me! This internet of ours is going to do wondrous things...

  • Wow...I'd always heard the term Web 2.0 thrown about but assumed it was referring to some revamping of the connection structure and speed. This pod was amazing and eye-opening, and impressively managed to give an incredible amount of information through textual exposition. The formal elements of the piece were absolutely fantastic, and kept a brisk pace with a variety of different types of movement within and between slides.
    Perhaps the best accomplishment of the pod was its inspirational qualities, in that it gave enough information to inform the viewer that there is a serious change going on in terms of information presentation and transfer, but did not attempt to focus on any specific point. As a result, the viewer becomes interested in the core value of the video, the notion that the way in which we are used to accessing information is drastically changing.
    Also, the way in which the computer was both the narrating character of the video and the subject of its powerful message made the finale all the more intriguing.

  • This piece sent shivers down my back. It's great--I found it captivating and thought-provoking. What's great is that, even though there is no particular person in frame, the voice in the piece becomes a character, which only furthers the content of Machine is Us/ing Us.

    Wonderful job, distilling a very abstract concept into a very tangible and visual form. It is almost as if you used the form to become the message, allowing us to really experience Web 2.0.

  • Agreed! Very few people understands the role of Corp Media Marketing when "Creative Content" leads to ideas that leads to Books, Writing, Film, Music and Corp Advertising. So what is the point? The point is on those that makes a profit from it and run without acknowledging the source. So yes we need to rethink and be more informed about all these topics you mentioned in the end of the film and maybe the multimillion dollar corp media advertising marketing will stop cheating, stealing and running. That is Ethics coming to life to respect life!

    ...and that is what real "Love" is really about.

  • Love this pod. After I caught half of it on tv, I just had to hunt the site for the full story.

    Brilliant, and makes you think.

    I develop website and just about to get stuck into a web 2.0 social networking project. This pod gives you a greater scope on the internet and how we share and use information via the web.

    I have been into and using computers since I was 4 years old, as my dad was also into computing and programming. I have been working in IT since 1995 and have seen Windows 3.11 and Dos come and go, hard drives grow from 500Mb for 1TB, and the birth of the Pentium. I love technology and computing, and it will be an industry that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

  • Sometimes I think I could be a billionaire now if I had money in the past to invest in the same companies that not to long ago was just starting up. Companies like Microsoft, Apple and many others. I did said "I could" because even if I did sort of predict the economic tech future, still it won't had made any difference because I did not had the money to buy and/or invest in their stocks.

  • Very interesting pod. You did a pretty good job at handling a lot of information and throwing it at the viewer in a compelling way. I love the idea of showing the viewer exactly what you mean by using the html and internet interfaces as you make your points; very clever and very documentary-like, in a way. The whole idea (or so they say) is to show more than tell, but you intertwine both very well. You bring up some fascinating points, too. Great stuff, very original.

  • Being a web designer and developer for the past 10 years, I have been behind the scenes watching technology, code and information change and I stopped trying to keep up a few years ago.

    All I can say is that there is a beauty and a beast, where both must be tamed and they can only be tamed when compassionate love, authentic community and genuine creativity are at the forefront. We must pursue these things so that fear and control do not reign, greed and consumption are not king and apathy and indifference are not our master.

    This outlook must goes beyond the corporate offices and the governmental policies, but us needing to take a look at our hands and creating the future where we celebrate our freedoms by acknowledging them every day and never taking them for granted.

  • Great thoughts towards life spirituality and philosophy "revolt." There are a lots things that you said there that I can identify with it and accept to be a transformed reality. I specially liked the ideals of compassionate love, authentic communities and genuine creativity.

    There is nothing to this day that I ask in reflection to the Spirit of GOD that lives in me and in the Universe that I do not receive an answer. Some of my questions might take time, some comes right the way. From some time ago I learned not to take this form of communication for granted. I learned to be patient and to praise the Spirit of GOD every day. It is true, GOD did gave me and to many this natural ability to analyze issues from its roots. If you look to how things started you will find its meaning, mistakes and solutions.

    The title of this discussion is "The Machine is Us using us." The title alerted me that there is a problem right there. Think about it! "The machine is Us using us." Why not "The machine is us using us to serve us?" Or more like the author probably meant: "The machine is using us helping us." The way the title was written, it suggest to me that we are unfairly being used by the machine without any returned benefit. I feel that it is just another ideology of slavering following the many ideologies present in today's society, in the academic world and in the world of economics.

    Therefore, I have been praying to GOD so humans can invent a political, social and economical system that is not based on "slavering." A system where "Grace" rules over our obligations. Do you think that is possible?
    I do think it is! GOD already invented this system. But many humans are not listening or following GOD. They are so eradicated in their own mediocracy that they can not see the light that is pointing to the path of freedom from economic slavering.

    Like a said I liked your comment because it touch in something that is truly possible. However, I would like to comment in regards to the word "control" when you said that: "We must pursue these things so that fear and control do not reign,"
    I am assuming you are talking about "evil control" and not simple control that is inherent part of each one of us. You and I wouldn't be able to write these words if it was not for "our own control." It is not control that is the problem, but what we end up to do with it, that is the issue.

    This video is a fantastic illustration of the potential of video on the Web.
    There must be a way that some of these ideas can be utilized to make Polarity Management more widely known/understood.
