Pretty sad... too bad people aren't inventing things a bit more useful and helpful to the world.
Drinking is just way too fun... no wonder people die from alcohol poisoning. -
you did a good job taking the humor out it. Yes that is a very sad clip and I feel for her. However if we all approached everything jovial with a flip side, glass half empty regard, then life would be pretty boring and spiritless.
So would it be wrong (as a vegetarian) to find this humorous 1930's icon funny? -
I like to have fun and joke as much as anybody but there's a time and place. I have goofy videos I submit to other places, but I've been hoping Current.com could be a place where we look at serious issues and try to take action... instead it's turning into another pop culture channel like Spike TV and Mtv, etc. Even TechTV (G4) has gone goofy. I just want a place to come and discuss serious issues. Current might have been that but maybe I'm wrong. Some of the Current staff seems to be more interested in wine, women and song than serious issues. Sometimes what's popular isn't always what's right.

you can find a plethora of serious issues on current.com. I am so thankful for that there is finally a news center that made by the people that really care. However, there is that saying that goes, "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
By the way, I am not trying to be a bitch, I just feel that there a humorous side to life. Celebration is one of the components the whole world agrees on. Whether it be Sake, Ouzo, Bourbon, or Wine. Thats not going to change. Actually, that was how the motor vehicle was invented, on finding a way to celebrate, only back then it was illegal.
Many people say that we shouldn't make fun of our president because he is the "leader" of our "free world." I'm sure that you among myself and many others have poked fun at the poor puppet he is. Proving that there is a lighter side to most cases.
I understand that there are many unfortunate circumstances with alcohol consumption. I am not condoning alcoholism in any degree. However, the same is true with sex, drugs, money, and food. Should we stop everything we do, and just twiddle our thumbs? -
luthreads... I agree that it's fun to laugh and joke... there's plenty of that on TV. I contribute to it.
But sometimes there are issues that really bug us. Alcoholism is what bugs me.
Alcoholism, drinking, etc. is one of those things I don't find funny since I grew up with an alcoholic. I'm sure rape victims don't find sex jokes funny. I feel the need to speak out because alcohol can lead to abuse, neglect and even murder.
I think the documentary and work we're doing has me on edge. But I can't give my blessings and watch Current TV turn into another pop culture free for all.
What happened to the passion of the 60's? College students used to care about serious issues it seemed. I wasn't alive then but it sounds like they cared more than they do now. Now college students seem to care more about drinking and partying than making a difference in this world. You hear about college students getting alcohol poisoning more than you hear about a social protest on a campus. The US and UK seem more passionate about their bars and pubs than politics. People are constantly looking for the better party or thrill. Who really cares any more about serious issues? Bush getting re-elected seems like a clear sign of that.
I guess I should turn my attention to "popular" issues, eh? Is it better to preach to the choir or bring light to issues that no one talks about? Current sometimes tackles those unknown issues and educates us. That's when I enjoy it most.
