New email from DFA: Dear Angelina,
What is wrong with our Senate leadership?
Three times now, DFA members like you and me have made phone calls demanding Senators stand up to the Bush administration and pass a FISA bill without granting immunity to telecommunication companies who spied on innocent Americans.
Each time, Washington insiders predicted that we would fail to stop it. And because of you, each time the insiders were wrong.
But President Bush is determined to get telecom immunity passed before he leaves office because he knows the lawsuits against AT&T and Verizon are America's last chance to hold the Bush administration accountable for spying on you. He's even promised to veto any FISA reform bill that doesn't let his cronies off the hook.
How many Americans will die in Iraq while the Senate spends another worthless day fighting over a flawed bill that only the President and his friends want passed? How many children will continue to go without health insurance because the Senate is too busy helping AT&T instead of fighting to expand S-CHIP or provide health care for all?
Why is a "get out of jail free" card for Verizon more important than stopping global warming?
It's time to take FISA reform off the table until America elects a new President next November. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could end this once and for all -- today.
Call Senator Reid right now and demand: No new FISA reforms while President Bush is still in office.
Democratic Majority Leader
Senator Harry Reid
(202) 224-3542
Suggested Script:
"Take telecom immunity off the table. Pull the FISA reform bill and extend current law until President Bush leaves office. The U.S. Senate has more important work to get done than figure out how to let AT&T get away with spying on Americans."

Wait! Don't stop there. Contact your senators too! They need to know where you stand. Senator Reid is more likely to stand strong if your senator stands with him. Please call your senators now:
Senator Barbara Boxer
(202) 224-3553
Senator Dianne Feinstein
(202) 224-3841
Don't forget to report how your calls went here:

Washington insiders say we can't stop this bill. Maybe they are right, but we've heard it before. Let's see what they are saying after you and I and our progressive community make thousands of calls today.
We will stand up to President Bush today. Together, we'll demand the Senate follows our lead.
Thank you for everything you do,
-Charles

You know Cosmo, I'm not surprised that went down. With China's intelligence program reaching "cold war levels" (so says the "news") we need to be more and more cautious of the world around us. I'm not sure how i fell about that. The progressive in me says HELL to the NO, but the wisdom in me puts on the breaks and says, wait a minute... What's REAL here? You know what I mean? I think you are CERTAINLY right about our elections. It's becoming increasingly clear how much our elections are at risk. There are too many loopholes, as well as opportunities for manipulation. That crap needs to come to an end. It's not just one side. They "all" do that crap. Enough is enough! WE must take OUR government back. I'm sick of these god damned snakes on this god damned plane!
-
You bring up a good point, but where do we draw the line between doing what's right and compromising to be on the safe side? Seems everything that comes out of our government any more is manipulation and half truths and butt covering. Restoring fair elections and voting in representatives that have this country's interests at heart would be a long term solution, true. In the meantime, FISA off the table and impeachment on would be a good start.
-
The vote also provided an opportunity to showcase the key differences on national security between presidential candidates, as Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) voted against immunity for telecoms, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), voted to keep immunity in the bill. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) did not show up for the vote. All three candidates were in the Washington area Tuesday morning for the region's three primaries.

EXCELLENT point Chique.
-
As usual, I was gone when it mattered.Too busy to get back to the computer but th votes of Obama, McCain and Clinton should show the public just how their candidates will act in the future.
I called late and even though I have two REDNECKED Texas Senators, I left Harry Reid a message that the Congressional rating was lower than Bush's and that impeachment would be the ONLY thing that would SHOW the public the REAL villains BEFORE the next election.-
