In the summer of 2007, an enormous spider web was found in East Texas. It caused scientist to ponder its existence and visitors to gasp at its profound beauty.

Interesting stuff! I must say I've never seen anything like this before. You do a great job at both introducing and explaining this bizaar world to the viewer, and you have some awesome footage. While I like the way you formatted it, starting with the professional explanation, then showing the night time frenzy, then ending with the reactions from the locals, raising some cultural questions along the way, I wonder if maybe you could shorten it a bit? While it works as a film, perhaps you'd be able to hold the viewer's attention a little more if you shortened up sections, particularly in the beginning. Just a thought! Anyways, the information is definately what's carrying this piece, so the focus always should and does remain on how cool and weird this spider community is, and you do a good job at emphasizing that.

Nice work. I saw this on the news a while back, and I'm glad you were able to make it over there. There's some great stuff in the cut you've got: great shooting, great subjects. However I think that to me this piece is not really about the spiders at all, but about all the strange and different people who are attracted to the nest. From the old gardener, to the scientist, to the blonde texan guy with the great name, you got a bunch of really interesting people saying really interesting stuff. I think that's where the heart of the story is. Check out Fast Cheap and Out of Control, if you haven't already. It may give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Great work!

Great characters, especially the park ranger at the top, loved him. The footage of the spiders also looks great. I felt like the sequence where it was just spiders got a little long at some point though, and maybe itd be useful to weave it in to the other interviews so you have your best b-roll accompanying the important points. I really loved the counterpoint of the scientist saying its not this big cooperative, lovey thing, but I would have liked to see someone say that first before he contradicts. Like maybe that hippieish character in the aquamarine comes out and says humankind could learn something from spiders and then the scientist comes back, "well actually their only here for the food". I also felt like I never got any visuals that gave me a sense of the total size of the web, and the size seemed to be a focal point for all the interviews.

This pod is really well done. The structure is great. The presentation of information is great. Its wonderfully shot. Well done all around. It does run a little long though considering the subject. There are many shots, close ups of the spiders, that could easily be cut down to make the flow smoother. Also, the information from the gentleman explaining how the web formed can be condensed. But honestly its really great work
