Following the assassination of the Hezbollah commander Imad Moughniyah, Israel is now on high alert and expecting a retaliation. An official statement by the Israeli PM said that Israel had nothing to do with the assassination, but with the murdered commander sitting high up on the US and Israeli wanted lists, Syria, Lebanon and Iran are all pointing the finger at Israel.

Hezbollah, contrary to popular Western belief, is not simply a terrorist organisation. In 2005 in the Lebanese parliamentary elections the group won 10.5% of the vote gaining them legitimate seats in the Lebanese political system. There political legitimacy is hotly debated and is interpreted differently by many different countries. You can read more about Hezbollah in the below link:

The Israeli security establishment expressed fears that Hezbollah would now plan a large scale attack on Jewish targets in Israel leading to already tight security measures being stretched. With tension in Lebanon regarding the three year commemoration of the former PM Rafik Hariri combined with the assassination of a top Hezbollah commander, the stability in the region is under pressure.
