If everyone in the US considers a vegan diet it would cut drastically on Green House Gases.

Could an all-star National Football League player, all 6-foot, 5-inches and 247 pounds of him, live on a vegan diet and still excel in one of the most punishing jobs in sports?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just started going vegan this week. So far I am enjoying it. It is easy now with all the selections and I actually feel better already.
I just heard that if we walk 3 miles, but it is fueled by a hamburger, then it is like driving an SUV because of all the carbon output put into raising cattle.
I wonder if Al Gore would meet the challenge as an example and for his own health.

Such small choices the little guy gets these days, but there are also decisions we can make about how we use our hard earned money, what cell phone company we use, what stocks we buy, what vehicles we drive. See superdummy's blog at http://superdummyinloveandwar.blogspot.com. and scroll down to "This Is My Letter To The World". My hope has been to create an ANTI global warming feedback loop. Hope does spring infernal sometimes, but as Obama said, "In the unlikely story that is America there has never been any such thing as false hope." The prisoner in "The Shawshank Redemption" counters, "Hope is a dangerous thing." But we can't live without it.

Pretty interesting. A friend tried to get me to go vegan but the truth is I love meat to much to give it up.

"I just heard that if we walk 3 miles, but it is fueled by a hamburger, then it is like driving an SUV because of all the carbon output put into raising cattle."
Carbon output from raising cattle? I eat locally raised, grass-fed beef. Very little carbon is created in the short delivery distance, and I can't imagine what kind of carbon output cows roaming around on a hill can create. I also get my vegetables from local farms, which means that they have the same basic carbon output as the beef.
The way I see it, there's just as much harm in getting vegetables from a non-local source as there is getting beef or lamb or chicken from a non-local source. All those trucks traveling thousands of miles to make deliveries creates a lot of carbon output.
You don't have to be vegan to significantly reduce your carbon output. Eating exclusively, or even just primarily from local farms helps a lot, no matter what your diet is. Taking public transportation or riding a bike or walking wherever it's reasonable is also a great way to reduce your CO2 output. Compost your leftovers. Recycle. Buy locally produced clothing and goods, or buy second-hand. Don't buy products made overseas whenever possible. There are thousands of things you can do.
That said, that shake looks delicious. You could add a few more greens without affecting the taste, too. -

Allsunday you have a point I didn't take it all into consideration.
I try to eat and purchase all local meat and humanely raised.
Marilynn we need to be conscious of what we consume and do the best we can..

"I think your body just adapts"
Very true! The human body is an amazing thing. -
I have no doubt about the capabilities the body has to adapt to most situations but that wasn't what I was getting at. Just last week I went out to dinner to a fabulous steakhouse where I had two delicious browned pork chops that were still sizzling on the plate when it was brought to our table. Not to mention a friend ordered a 3/4 inch dry aged Angus Beef steak that was absolutely dripping with juice. Just thinking about it makes my gullet rumble but I digressed. I'm sure my body can adopt a no meat, no dairy diet but I just love meat far to much to ever say 'good-bye'.

Human beings are omnivores, so it's perfectly normal to crave meat. I couldn't live without it either! Especially since I have a protein-based metabolism. -
...I think we need to just be aware of all our choices and knowledgeable about where it all comes from...
I am not here to make judgments on anyone.
I have eaten meat most of my life ...on and off.-
