Rick Steves smokes pot!

PBS Travel Writer Rick Steves is teaming up with the ACLU of Washington State, to tackle the prohibition of Marijuana. They are comparing this prohibition, to the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s. Rick Steves smokes marijuana when he is in Europe and has learned from their tolerant approach to the drug, "Marijuana use should be treated primarily as a health issue, not a criminal one. In Europe I've seen how more thoughtful approaches to social issues can really work. Our government's war on drugs sounds very tough and results-driven, but all it really succeeds at is being enormously expensive, tearing families apart and treating nonconformists as criminals."

Washington State is one of the more pro-marijuana states, so they thought this would be a natural location to start their campaign.

  • I heard that Rick Steve's plan to free marajuana from slavery was to bore the anti-drug people to death with PBS travel videos. This article was very informative. I'm glad I live in Washington!!!

  • Way to go.
  • I always suspected he was blazed out of his mind in those videos... especially the one that consisted entirely of footage of him and Snoop Dogg in an Amsterdam hotel room giggling and eating fondue....

  • I missed that one! I guess my German teacher didn't show it because it had nothing to do with Germany. Ich liebe Rick Steves!

  • Jack Herer's book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" presents a great case for the benefits of decriminalization of hemp (not weed) for industrial use - too many people are in jail for a liking a plant that could very well solve all of our fuel, food, and fiber problems... 13 American states have already taken the first steps towards a federal redress of the issue by decriminalizeing marijuana; that's all it took to get our country in the history books!
  • bahahaha rick steves
  • Yep, I attended a lecture of his sponsored by NORML over a year ago. Cool stuff, I wish we would stop worrying about the little things and legalize the stuff. Think of all the money that would be generated for the economy that could be invested in programs like schools, homeless shelters etc.

  • If more potheads weren't lazy, and voted, then it'd already be done in 40 states or more I'm willing to bet. I'm glad I am in WA myself.
