There are many ways of looking at our world and this is one. Linguistics. I made this short video introducing some "highlights" in the coming year. These are excerpts from the notes of George Ure. Since early 2001 a former big software company fellow did a massive SQL databases and came up with the concept of short and long-term values to language use. As these language patterns drift around over time, there may be some useful information about the future.

Its a good piece, with good music and a compelling tone. It made me watch to the end even though there were no visuals to keep my mind stimulated. I think if you can simply get some provocative pictures and use them to add some movement to the already great writing then you'll really have something special.
I may not agree with the dystopian outlook in its entirety but I think there are things of merit in here! Good work!

thanks for the notes Phillyharper. I had the same problem making/watching this. I put on a friend’s music while working on something else and found a perfect fit. No other visuals were intended for this piece. Life and death happening around me while this sat in my computer until Regina posted her eyeball here on webcam. There it was. Just what I needed. This is not a contender for TV but is more of a sketch of something I find interesting. I am also not sure I agree with the dystopian outlook. But I do think we humans are a problem. This is just a look at another way to look.
-
Yes some of us humans are the problem. You are right....although I don't put the all Native Cultures in there. Many of them make sure that future generations were always thought of...It is more our industrialized nations...our arrogance and ignorance.
I just hope that we have gone through a process of education of how bad things can get if we sleep...
and use it as a reminder of what NOT to do...if Bush does it then, it is wrong for everyone.
He IS a uniter..everyone hates him so we are united in that.
I like your comments Cosmoplavix about Tom Lantos. It is true about not achieving the aim without suffering.
The ups and downs of life amaze me sometimes...how we can be in the depths of suffering and feel like we are in an eternal pit of darkness.
but then later..we can then be on the top of the world again and feel the sunshine on our faces with our kids and enjoy a chocolate ice cream cone with great passion after some healing and time passes. Where did the unbearable pain go?
I have renewed hope now with our new direction in government...I hope the pendulum never swings that far over...
Imagine...I felt fear in front of our US President's home in Kennebunkport, Maine...on a beautiful summer day.. that I would get hit on the head by a crowd control police...not that I was actively threatened but I felt a fear if I didn't behave...that is not my America.

I know you're all gonna laugh but dystopia was a new word for me =D lol (thanks very much phillyharper, and twodees for the occasion! I love learning new things...it's probably a lot of the reason I come here) here's what i found...
DYSTOPIA (dystopic): An imagined universe (usually the future of our own world) in which a worst-case scenario is explored; the opposite of utopia. Dystopic stories have been especially influential on postmodernism, as writers and film-makers imagine the effects of various aspects of our current postmodern condition, for example, the world's take-over by machines (The Matrix); the social effects of the hyperreal (Neuromancer); a society completely run by media commercialism (The Running Man); the triumph of late capitalism (Blade Runner); bureaucratic control run amok (Brazil, 1984); and so on...
I think this fits the bill although I guess it derives from some "bible-codish" kinda thing??? Not sure I completely understood that but... hey I watched it all too =D
(definition gleaned from http://www.cla.purdue.edu/English/theory/) -
Echoz,
Great doing the leg work, like an insightful detective, you bring us closer to the heart of dystopia. Like a Film-Noir run amok, dystopia defines society at it's most dangerous. Great films et. al Brazil,1984,The Matrix...
Nice work doing the research on such a phenomenally interesting topic. Now some one can tell me if phenomenally is spelled right...all the best,

Canofmeatfilm, Yes, it is according to spell check. Spelling isn't that important, some of the smartest people are poor spellers. Their mind works too fast to get it right.

...and now for something a little less...morbid
will dogs inherit the earth and language?

...I heard that visualizing positive ideas/possibilities can somehow affect what happens in the past...or something like that (._.)

thought I would snip this in from George's site this morning. He says:
Wow: I am in complete awe of the linguistics work of Cliff over at www.halfpasthuman.com. He's been saying for almost a year that in Spring we would see calls for 'early elections' and boy, has that ever popped out all over the place. A check of Google's news search engine finds:
*
"Rift over EU support for Kosovo pushes Serbia into early election."
*
In India, "Pranab rules our early elections"
*
South Africa may have early elections as media there ask "Is it too early to put the lame ducks out of their misery?"
*
Even small Fiji is being swept up in the meme with "Sir Paul calls for early election"
But, of course, the most widespread phrasing associated with the early election linguistic is the potential for re-voting in Floridah (which earned that deliberate spelling in political discussions after their presidential fiasco) and Michigan.
Could it be that modelspace cacked on a verb? Could this be the "early election" controversy/MSM/mainstream media swirl that's been coming for many months, or might we still see "calls for" early elections coming to the USA and not just Serbia, India, South Africa, and Fiji, and whoever else climbs on the meme? Murky stuff, this... -
WOW! That was greatly in tune with how I'm feeling about the progression of things. 2008 Manifestation for sure.
You have my vote for an early election in the US to help assist in social change. Frankly, I'm for anything that starts changing the world view of my America. Right now it's very damaged.
My concern is that their may not even be an election if we head into another war. Since I feel it will take some catalyzing event to get us there.
Btw.. You just made me a fan of Dave Barnes/Barnz (sp)
I believe this is some of his music in the above link. His music reminds me of Phil Thornton. His tracks are going right into my pre-meditation playlist. ;-)
Nice work twodee!
Here's a link to some free downloads. Enjoy.
