"He foresaw global warming. He "took the initiative" on the Internet. And he knew exactly how Iraq would turn out. Who's to say that Al Gore hasn't known all along that the Democratic race would descend into some weird state of gridlock--and that only he, the Goreacle, could rescue the party from civil war?
The last time a political convention went to a second ballot was 1952, but this is a year with so many twists and turns that nothing is impossible. Gore would be tempted on so many levels. He would only have to endure two months of campaigning"

As a life long conservative Republican I have been unhappy will any of the choices during this election. However, if given the choice of an Al Gore (President) / Obama (Vice President) I would gladly cross over and vote Democratic. I can also say with confidence that just about every Republican I know would (very quickly) do the same. The one thing that keeps me from voting Obama now instead of McCaine is the fact that Obama just does not have the experience (at this time) to be a logical choice for President. And neither myself, nor any Lifelong Republican I know would EVER cross over to vote for any one in the Clinton Crime Family, especially Hillary. If the Democratic party wants a guaranteed winning ticket for all Americans and want to ENSURE cross-over voters the Gore/Obama ticket would be way to go. The most serious mistake that the Demoratic party could make would be to have a Clinton/Obama or an Obama/Clinton ticket. Any ticket with Hillary on it will never get a cross over vote from anyone. Everyone I know would go out of their way to vote against her. The Gore suggestion is the best idea I've heard in a very long time!... And a Gore/Obama ticket would give Obama the experience he would need to be supported in a run for President in 4 years. Even though a life long Republican, I would gladly cross over to vote such a ticket with no hesitation.

Why would you call for that kind of scenario that would have Mr. Gore looking like he did just what Bush did in 2000? You do realize that would be the interpretation of many and the media, don't you? That he was clandestinely planning this from behind the scenes? It would ruin everything he has done already on the climate crisis and totally cheapen and politicize his important message that noone in this media seems to give a damn about unless they can use it for a political purpose. Do you realize what that would do to truly break this country apart? Do you really think he would want that after rightfully shunning this political system? You think he would just walk in and take it after not even one vote being cast for him in a primary? But apart from that, what makes you think this military industrial complex would ever allow it to get that far? Those who respect Mr. Gore and see how right he was about the toxic nature of this system would tend to then believe he was also one of them if he just smiled, shook all of their hands, and took it. And I personally would not like to see him on a ticket with Barack Obama and don' t intend to have Obama pushed down my throat by this media anymore than Bush was. I genuinely would also fear for his safety, but I suppose that isn't of any concern to people not thinking beyond the media flurry it would cause and those doing nothing but continuing to push the man without doing anything to change the system they want to push him into. Do you see how Kucinich, Edwards, and Gravel were ignored and pushed out? Do you not then know the power of the elitists in this system? Do you then honestly think Mr. Gore would join them? I tried to have a glimmer of hope for this system one last time with Edwards, but after seeing him pushed out and going without a fight against them it isn't rocket science to see just how strong that power is. So I don't want Mr. Gore to have to deal with this crap now because the American people on the whole haven't done a damn thing but condone the usual BS political tactics to take precedence over REALLY standing up for this country. When is that coming? Again, if Mr. Gore on his own does anything on that score without being PUSHED, I'll be there for him becaue I will then know that he believes there is a chance for him to have better success with his climate change agenda... however, if he felt that way now he would already BE IN IT, but he unlike others knows the score. I am then absolutely against pushing him into this in any way, shape or form against his will because I need to see a bit more work being done on the whole by the people of this country to really care about this country first. And I don't see it at all. So why should he be the scapegoat? Does he really deserve to have to to be forced to clean up someone else's mess?

Here's a good one
I can't help holding hope that Obama knows what is right and is working within the system in the only way that might work. Edwards was a good strong guy on this but he did not get elected. He came so close!
I contributed $300 of birthday money without an income to his campaign..with hopes...my husband and son laughed at my poor investment because they thought he was the obvious loser...We don't have a choice right now.I have anger too that Edwards did not win.

Yes! to your link on Obama's position on lobbying by special interests and their hold on our country. Hillary keeps saying that Obama doesn't have the experience. His ideas are a giant step in the right direction, and as long as he appoints the right intelligent, common sense people to the right positions he will be able to accomplish his goals. (We've seen what happens when we don't). Experience means nothing unless you know how to manage your staff around a vision with the goal being to get results.
Appointing Al Gore and John Edwards would be an excellent start should Mr. Gore continue to stay out of this frey. There's no doubt, however that a Gore/Obama ticket would be unbeatable - as would an Obama/Edwards ticket. But as Marilynn would say, we're getting a lot of hard experience with disappointment.
-
Yes Chique we should not forget to have Edwards in there too....as Attorney General perhaps.
Absolutely.
........a powerful force against the
Corporations Gone Wild....(good title for Michael Moore's new movie ?)-

An Obama/Gore ticket makes more sense. We would not be messing with the process. We need to DEDICATE an AL GORE VICE PRESIDENCY to dealing with CLIMATE CHANGE in this country and abroad. Al Gore doesn't have time to deal with all the issues confronting this country which would be the case with him as President. He wants to keep the focus on the climate change. Why not put the power of the US government behind him so he can deal with the problem nationally and internationally. He knows the scientists, he knows the international leaders, and he has credibility around the world. This is a planetary problem. We can retrieve our international reputation if we have Al Gore representing us on this issue. Madison Avenue sold us the SUVs when the car companies panicked over the CAFE standards. We need someone like Al Gore to go convince the American people and Detroit to stop making them and to stop driving them. We need to develop serious incentives for all of the alternative energy possibilities. This is a full-time job. Make him VICE PRESIDENT, and let Climate Change be his charge. Imagine a VP on Energy that would throw the oil companies out of the White House!

Mr.Gore has stated he would not be a VP again or take a cabinet position, or be a part of an adminstration. I think his words and wishes should be respected. And please, VP to Obama? He is a Nobel Peace Prize winner, a statesman, and had been in this system for thirty years. What an insult.

I don't think Gore would do this. I'm sure he could see how stepping into the 2008 election would create divisions in the party and hurt democrats in the election. Everyone should be pushing for party unity. I wish Obama and Hillary could see how important it is to work together for the ultimate goal... putting a democrat in the white house not the nomination.

With regard to a Moore film titled "Corporations Gone Wild" I just want to say I do not want to see any CEO's topless.

My contention of having Al Gore be Obama's VP is not an insult. It is giving Gore a bigger platform from which to educate everyone about the dangers and solutions related to a very BIG PROBLEM, GLOBAL WARMING! We have many who can deal with the problems with social security, health care, poverty, New Orleans, infrastructure, job losses, illegal immigration, unemployment, stem cell research, AIDS, homeless people, Veterans' benefits, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, nuclear proliferation, and education. A President needs to deal with all of these problems and many more. A Vice President Gore with a big megaphone could concentrate on a global approach to global warming. I hate to say it, but it would be a waste of his talent to have him be President right now. If we get a handle on global warming, he can take over after Obama finishes his 8-year term.
-
Peej, your take on Gore's 'advantage' in having a cabinet position is about as outdated as the "megaphone" itself.
Gore speaks louder to the world now than he ever did as VP, and more people are listening due to his successes in the private sector.
Gore would only be the next president if the people themselves demanded it. Straight from the ground up. Unanimous undivided loud strong willed support for Gore's political leadership - and an outright rejection of the mess that this political scene has become. Anything less than unanimous public outcry both on the streets and in the media is not worth paying attention to, and I'm afraid that the public has been silenced with distractions and conveniences while the machine fattens on a money diet.

agreed.
Obama is doing great on his own.
Hillary is not the icon of feminine autonomy that women would like her to be.
and Gore has better things to do.

And really, the primaries aren't even over yet so why all the angst? How about letting the American people decide? I am not supporting Clinton or Obama right now, but whatever the people decide should be respected ( and hopefully all of their votes are being counted fairly, but I even doubt that.) However, there are primaries through June. Let it play out before getting all verklempt over something that hasn't happened yet.
