Although widely overshadowed by the Iraq War, the grants made available to African nations to fight malaria, HIV, and to reform their government infrastructure have been an incredible success. President Bush is considered a hero to many in Africa who are afraid that the “Bush Fund” will no longer exist once he leaves office. While the US and Bush are held in low public approval abroad, in Africa both are held in high regard.

  • I had no idea Bush's administration had contributed so much towards the desperate situation in parts of the African continent. To many, however, he seems to provoke uneasiness even at the mere mention of his presence somewhere. Tread lightly, Mister Bush...

  • It is true that Bush has done much to help those in Africa combat HIV and Malaria. It doesn't get reported on much, because of all the other international matters that the media reports on, most specifically Iraq. While I disagree with much of the policy positions of President Bush, this is one area where I agree with him. After he leaves office the US needs to continue and even increase this type of funding.
