The Catholic Church has vowed to "fight the devil head-on" by training hundreds of priests as exorcists.
One priest, who asked not to be named for fear of "reprisals", said he was carrying out at least one exorcism a fortnight.

Hard to believe that people buy into the concept of possession in this day and age. But who's to say it's not a therapeutic and constructive form of ritual. It's someone's reality, right? Let's hope they don't turn out like the girl in the story at the link, who suffered horrifically because of her family's beliefs.

Quote: "Hard to believe that people buy into the concept of possession in this day and age...". The "day and age" part of that is funny. When it really comes down to it, we don't know "what" we are or "where" we are or "why" anything exists at all... so the idea that somehow "modern science" has revealed what exorcism really is or isn't is purely a result of the need to feel safe in this mysterious and completely unknown worldly existence.

I can't believe this is real! The pope has an exorcist-in-chief? What's next, Smurf catchers?
