Why are the transatlantic cables snapping?

A strange epidemic of undersea communication cables have been severed or damaged since January 30 effecting internet and phone traffic through out the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. The first 2 cable cuts were initially blamed on ships anchors but a review of video footage from the same coastal waters show that no maritime traffic had occurred in the area for 12 hours before and after the incidents.
