In the midst of the global environmental crisis, the US is the single largest contributor to global warming. We need to start doing the little things to save the planet...like hanging our laundry. this is one of the cultural differences I've noticed as an American living abroad in Spain and it inspired to make this short.

Great piece. We dry some of out laundry outside (weather permitting). We are actually doing it against the by-laws of our subdivision. It's ridiculous. I am an American born and raised, but I think its crazy that I am not really allowed to dry my laundry outside.
I'm looking into expanding the operation this year once it gets warmer out - it's 5F right now.
Great job and I can't wait to spread it around.

A poignant, lush, and reflective piece. I'm glad it's on television. Great work.

Where I come from hanging your laundry to dry is the way of doing your laundry. My grandparents do it, my parents, and I was used to doing it too. Until I moved into the student life and started living in an apartment complex. The first time I asked my mom "where am I suppose to hang my clothes?" but somehow my roommates showed me how to use the dryer. But it was funny and embarrassed at the same time.
And now it's something I can't live without, but I still do the old tradition when I head home. :) -
i loved this. it had a personalized approach and an artistic eye. i enjoyed hearing his perspective and hearing the comparison about these small details puts things in perspective for me.
thanks for this one :)-

this is a great pod. very reflective. i hang some of my clothes to dry, but sadly not all. and yes, i think it is the little things that will ultimately make or break us because all of those little things add up.
i think about all the people that don't plan out their day according to what they have to do and when they're running their errands they do it in the most inefficient and wasteful way. waste of time, energy, and gas. but that's what america is...WASTEFUL. -
I miss BCN.

A very aesthetically-pleasing self-reflection on the issue of drying clothes. I like the aesthetics of the piece but I'm not sure as to the validity of the assessment. No numbers/statistics and/or opposing points of view make it very difficult to see the pod as an informational/ educational piece. It's a great film in acknowledging different culture and/or society treatment of dirty laundry - but the film is just that, an acknowledgment that Spaniards hang dry their clothes and Americans use the drying machine. Perhaps it goes beyond the simple premise that Americans are wasteful and extravagant. Perhaps there is a good cultural and/or historical explanation for the popularity of dryers in America versus Spain. So, while I admire the aesthetics, I feel that the piece is lacking in its assertions.

Absolutely lovely montage. This is an incredibly important issue. Very few countries outside the U.S. actually use dryers, and they seem to be managing. It's so interesting to see how we are able to convince ourselves that convenience, however minor, is worth the detrimental effects that will undoubtably ensue in years to come.

yea.. over here in mexico, we do this, almost everybody.
we dont have the "clothing collage" out on the streets, cos people are kinda "grabby", hehe.. but yea i think we do something good for the earth. most of the people also wash their clothes by hand on these ribbed stones, called lavaderos..
but ive seen that on rural areas some people go to the river bank and wash their clothes there on a stone. and i really hope they use biodegradable soap.. or biodegradable detergent.. but then again is there really such a thing?? -
awesome stuff josh!! lavado a mano es como tenia que ser // keep shooting!

great pod. a little hard for us down here in humid louisiana to line fry our clothes. i have towels that start to smell of mold if they are left clean in the basket for more than a week. there is too much moisture in the air here for this to be realistic...

NO, nice pod but I don't like this at all. I for one am glad that we haven't adapted this. Spain is a very backward nation in terms of how they do things compare to other developed nations. it is a very hostile place to minorities, even though Spaniards are considered not whites by many others. they do a lot of backward things, from throwing bananas at soccer players to enjoy stabbing a bull and watching it die. this is not saving energy by all means, just backward. this is how they do in all third world countries. I'm sorry but I'll stick with my drying machine.

Muy interesante la propuesta, aunque algo chocante en una sociedad que aún está incorporandose a la hiperconexión, a la superelectrificación doméstica. Os he enlazado en mi blog

Thanks a lot for your job -
Gorgeous shooting! and short and sweet make a very good combo. This is one of the few pods that can turn something that sounds so mundane as laundry into a work of art. Definitely captures the spirit of the people of Spain and the attractive colors of the clothing. Loved it, keep up the good work!

this is cool idea, but not practical for everyone. if i put my laundry on a line to dry, it would probably get stolen. there is a reason why drying machines were invented...
