The Team Behind Obama

One of the biggest criticisms I've heard of Obama -- other than the media pushing the "no experience" meme -- is that we dont know the team behind him. Well, here ya go!

"'If you guess that he's surrounded himself with people who are highly ideological, left-wing or dovish, you would guess wrong,' added Zelikow, now a history professor at the University of Virginia. 'These folks cannot easily be typecast by ideology.'"

Interesting note on if this matters at all:

"Such architects of the Iraq war as Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Condoleezza Rice and Richard Perle all were influential policy advisers to Bush's presidential campaign. Colin Powell made important public appearances on behalf of candidate Bush but remained distant from the campaign's foreign policy deliberations, foreshadowing the role he would play in the run-up to the Iraq war."

  • Ok get ready for a little edumacation Joan. To start with, Senator Obama does have political background. He's the Senator of Illinois. and for your comment on "acknowledgeing" blacks and latinos, I give you a clip from Obama's address to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. "The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America."

  • I'm sorry, but you speak with a manner of complete irrationality, ans your poor attempt at straw man tactics shows. Seriously, did you even read the article?

  • I'm not sitting here waiting for opinions, i am checking up on the entire site for current news and points of interest. Just your TERRIBLY worded sentence (and yes, it was a terrible run-on sentence) just really hit a nerve the wrong way. Good luck to you, in your closed-minded life. Oh and no, i don't go to church, i don't belive in brainwashing.

  • I don't believe that one second. You are a Veteran, of what? girl scouts? I'm a PFC in a Mobile Combat Support Hospital recently deployed to to BOTH Tikrit and North Bagdad. Look at each of their war strageties, Obama voted against us ever starting that unjust war and instead of doing a drastic leftist thing like, instant withdrawl. He actually understands whats happened and that we've desteroid the entire areas governing powers. Secondly, WOW "Brad Bitt" and Jolie come on, OUR PRESIDENT was fishing and AWAY when katrina hit, look at it now, that part of OUR country still looks the same as when the storm hit.

  • Mistake #1- the Clinton team truly underestimated Obama's campaign, as this article proves, consists of a very strong policy team. Obama may lack experience (if measured by number of years), but he is an intelligent and articulate Harvard educated politican. Clinton on the other hand, has the gravitas, and will be able to leverage her experience and policy prowess to bring change and solutions to real problems (as demonstrated by her tireless efforts in the senate to rebuild NYC after 9/11). The democrats should be proud of their choices of candidates this election cycle.

  • I just think its very admirable and honorable the way Obama's campaign has handled things. If this is a sign of how he would operate as a President, it is very promising for all of us.
  • Thank you for posting this very interesting article!

It seems that Obama's relationship with those in his campaign is similar to his relationship with supporters and voters in general. I especially enjoyed this quote: '"It's very spirited," said one longtime aide. "He tests out ideas and challenges people. Nobody is allowed to be quiet."' I like this idea, in the sense that Obama would be open to people questioning him, talking about the issues, being open and frank about policy. I do not see this in Hillary's campaign, and frankly am disappointed in her decision to go negative. While Hillary does have experience, I also think she is more of a politician, something that turns off a lot of voters (myself included), where as Obama is more of a professor and open to discussion.
