The city of Chicago installed blue lights around the city, hoping to deter crime. But does it?
This video was produced by ChardaƩ Davis, Erin Musland, Candace Wells and Tyler Yarbrough for the Medill School of Journalism's undergraduate Newswriting and Reporting class.
The video is from February 2007 when we took an intro journalism class. Don't worry, our stories have gotten at lot better!

This pod definately contains some new and relevent information, but it's begging to be developed more! Right now the piece feels way to tv-news-like, and while you present some great info, you're more likely to grab the audience's attention if you can do stuff to make it more "current": throw in some music, get some b-roll of people on the streets under the lights (if safe and possible), get the people you interview to go out and actually show the camera how the light works, etc. Basically, you want your pod to give the viewer a reason to care about the issue, and the way you get them to care is if you're able to show a particular individual or two showing us the conflict. If we can hear from them showing and telling why it's relevent rather than hearing it from a voice over you'll find the pod will become much more engaging! Good start, and I hope that helps as you start making more pods!
