After the first national elections in six years in Pakistan, surprised international observers are calling them fair.

The Pakistan opposition parties are now working on forming a coalition - with a two thirds majority, they could impeach Pervez Musharraf, but have not made clear whether this is their intent in forming the joint party.

I enjoyed this report - great to have an immediate first person account.
For an in-depth look at the way Musharraf's policies have failed, watch this short Frontline/World documentary. You can watch it online.
A lot of people I've talked to seem to support Musharraf as if he's the only option to maintain stability - but I think David Montero's Frontline/World story reveals the fact that he de-stabilized the rule of law; cracking down on lawyers and the judiciary. And he allowed the Taliban to gain ground in the Northwest provinces.
Disclaimer; I work at Frontline World. But this story shows you more than any other Pakistan related piece I've seen!-
