Sargent died with his eyes open, fists clenched and strapped into a car seat after eight days without food or water, the county's top prosecutor said Wednesday. Parents of 5-month-old appear in court to face first-degree murder charges, may be facing death penalty.

This really makes me sick. I would never even think of doing anything like that to my son, EVER! I'm DISGUSTED!
-
Why didn't they take that baby and drop it off at the fire department? You don't have to keep babies you don't want unless it would stop your aid checks and you couldn't keep playing video games.

We shut down the state hospitals in order to "curb spending" for social programs. Why are you people surprised and disgusted?
-
We didn't, Ronald Reagan did. No one has saw fit to undo the damage from that, so it continues. If you have a mentally ill family member there is nothing you can do. Even if you know they are a danger.

Sad very sad.
-
The baby was in the house. The person living in the garage moved it from the living area to it's room and crib after a day or so. The parents still have a right to a fair trial. This is still America.

OMG! What monsters.
-
No, they shouldn't be put to death immediately. If found guilty they should be starved to death.

I've avoided looking at or reading this thread as it's just too... horrific - for what the child must have experienced.
Abortion would have been better. Giving the child away to friends, leaving on someone's doorstep, anything would have been better and more acceptable. I wonder why they didn't choose any other options - I bet they didn't think of it - or were afraid.
Where were their family members? Why didn't those that were close to them intervene? Didn't anyone ask where the child was? Didn't anyone care?
Really sad.
Just read the article. This comes back to a discussion on another thread about psychopaths. These people were neglected as children themselves, they internalized it, it victimized them as they thought something was wrong with them, they they were defective, undeserving and so forth, so they acted it (neglect that is) out on another as it had been acted out on them. The cycle repeats itself - only not this time.
Honestly, they had no skills or ability to help themselves. They thought hooking up (getting together) would help them, they thought having sex would help them, whatever it was they tried - drinking, drugs, games, but they had no clue what was wrong - frustrated they acted it out on whoever they could.-

You are right abortion would have been better. My guess is they were getting welfare for having that baby. That's the reason they kept him.

That may be.
I still flatly disagree with the death penalty! We can benefit from these people. If as a society we don't learn from our failures - we learn nothing at all.
So it is as individuals, so it is as a society. Prosecution, execution - repeating the same actions and expecting a different outcome? It's just as insane as what happened to that poor child.
For what it's worth, if you believe we choose our parents, perhaps the baby's life was meant to be short any way - just trying to come to terms with the existential aspect of it.-

Yes, Voyager and in reality so do I. I can't help wanting them to suffer a bit :o)

In my opinion, they have suffered - that's why they've done this - but I'm not saying they should be patted on the back and told to go home either although, the chances they'd do this again are extremely small.
Society hasn't any means to help these people really, so what we do with them is punish them for our ignorance, ignorance for the neglect they received as children, ignorance of the result of that neglect on their own children.-

That may be true. Many of us didn't have an ideal life and worked hard to not inflict it on our children. Jail.
