"CBS's 60 Minutes broadcast Sunday regarding the alleged political prosecution of Democratic Alabama governor Don Siegelman went dark in the northern third of Alabama last night."
"Karl Rove is known to have worked with Bill Canary on numerous political races in Alabama, beginning in 1994"
Bill Canary is the guy who ran against Don Siegelman and whose wife initially prosecuted him for his seven year prison term.
Very fishy, very very fishy.

Furthermore, Rove's response to this segment seems a little too "thy lady doth protest to much" for me.
Does anyone else get that feeling? -
That's sad but not surprising. Being as I'm from Alabama and spent a few months down there recently I can tell you their government is not a trustworthy one. All attempts to build up Birmingham's economy are completely failing. I didn't get much of the story as to why but it seems there is a lot of special interest spending down there.

Powerful story. The Republicans are like a virus -- they infect all levels of government. That's what is so disturbing. So what if Karl Rove wanted to get this guy? At any other point in history he would try and fail. It's the fact that he had sooooo many high level people are ready, willing and able to obey his direct orders (even the freaking judge!) It's like we've been invaded by the Nazis and we don't know who the sleeper agents are until Karl Rove activates them. They only way you know these people aren't actually Americans is after the fact (like when the judge ordered the guy to jail THAT INSTANT and in leg shackles)??

I don't remember much of the story. What I do recall is Siegelman went to bed having won the election for Governor and woke up the next morning to find that a bunch of Republican election workers had "FOUND" enough ballots to cost him the election. Of course he was fighting it and ended up in jail for his efforts. It stinks and an innocent man is in jail. That's the way it goes in a fascist country. What are we going to do about it?

I liked AngelinH's idea in another conversation where she said we should all march dressed in business attire and carrying briefcases.
-
All I have that fits is Levi's and sweatshirts. I guess that and a rake is business attire for yard work?

what really boggles my mind is that a story like this should have the legs of a cheetah, but takes off like a turkey. 24 views, i got more views for posting "man shoots himself with flare gun", makes me wonder what this country has in store for it.

Heh Red... Did you forget that more Americans vote for their American Idol than their American President? Republicans, to me, seem to have a good idea of how the average brain works psychologically. They have developed a perfect formula: 1; Cheat to win office. 2; Do something unbelievable and ridiculous politically that gives you substantial gain with anything of your interest. 3; immediately silence the people you have completely screwed over. 4; Evoke fear upon the public by referencing something you know they are afraid of over and over again. 5; For the people fear does not work on, turn public opinion away from them by labeling them anarchists. 6; Feed the rest mindless news to keep them preoccupied as you do whatever the hell you want.... I probably missed a few steps but that's my general consensus of how it works. Step six is important because the vicious cycle of the first five is so much stress I assume most people just give the hell up.

You forgot about sending their jobs overseas so their occupied with just trying to survive. Bill Clinton gave them that one in NAFTA just for fun.

redryan - you posted this over a month ago and although it seems I'm constantly checking stories posted on Current, I missed this somehow. Sometimes I think it's the timing when everyone seems to be posting at once and these stories get lost. I just watched the 60 minutes video. I thought nothing Rove and this administration did would shock me but this is mind numbing. Rove needs to take Siegelman's place in prison yesterday along with all of the jack asses that helped him.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was an independent newspaper that would print anonymous (not to the paper) stories that reporters would write if they could. I think about this constantly. It could be at the checkout alongside the scandal sheets, only would have the truth.
