February is coming to a close, but we’ve made some updates to Current.com. Before you make the leap into March, check out some of our brand spanking new features.

Here’s the skinny:

-- Homepage --
Last month we unveiled a sneak peak at the brand new homepage on Current.com. We’ve gathered a wealth of feedback from members of the community, and today we take off the sneak peak mode training wheels. If you haven’t already, take a gander. As always, continue to let us know what you think.

-- New Video Player --
We’ve updated the look of our video player, and packed some new functionality in as well. The video player now includes full screen playback, and a menu that offers up the embed code, a direct link to the video, and the top 6 stories on Current.com.

Check out this clip for the JAM Awards to see the new player in action firsthand: http://current.com/items/88853165_jam_awards_world_prem...

-- Profile Activity Filtering --
Sorting through someone’s activity on their profile can be a chore, but no longer! We’ve updated our user profiles with the ability to sort someone’s activity by submissions, credits, responses, or votes. Visit any member’s profile and select a filter from the drop down menu in the activity section.

Here are a few more noteworthy updates to share:

-- Toolshed --
We’ve added a labs section to the site. There you’ll find some handy tools and widgets available to Current.com members. We only have two at the moment, but we’ll be adding more soon.

-- Topic Merging --
Our team now has the ability to merge related topics together into one thread, which will hopefully help cut down on some of the redundancies on the site.

Let us know what you think by adding a response to this thread or sending an email to comments@current.com.

  • Holla at a full screen player when you see it on the screen!
    joebrilliant
  • Then lets see it!

I also think you should make more features to browse profiles by region/interests etc.

  • can you make the video player a little prettier???
    jade_azul16
  • Thank You. I've been asking for a full screen player. Could you make it look nicer though? And when it goes into full screen the quality is not that great. Can you please increase the video quality or have an option to have a small screen quality and a big screen quality?

  • Profile Activity Filtering is cool but would still like to see the ability to completely remove or organize the list from my end rather than on the connections page.

  • Thanks everyone! We'll be adding in full-screen menus soon and taking a look at increasing our video quality now that we have full-screen playback.

jade_azul16 - we think the player itself is darn pretty :(
    rnaber
  • What Naber MEANT to say, was: What do you mean, make it more pretty? Are you talking about skinning the player in different colors/textures? Or are you also talking about vid quality. What would make it prettier to you?
    AmandaZee
  • Sorry folks - we looked around and realized our new player actually cannot be prettier. There's literally NOTHING we can do - it's the prettiest most elegant player ever in the history of the internet.

but vid quality could be improved. We'll look into that...

  • Also, it seems to have stopped sorting my list newest first...

  • I like most of the changes. I really wish that videos would not automatically play, though. Most of the time I would like to read the description of the pod before I watch it. As it is now, if I decide I'm not interested in a pod, too late sucka, you've already downloaded the whole thing in the first few seconds of navigating to the page. Why don't you make it so when we're ready to watch it we click play? I would like that so much better, and it would save me some money, since, with my internet service, I pay per GB of download.

Does anyone else wish the videos wouldn't play automatically, or is it just me? If I knew of some way to slow down my internet connection (wow, I thought I would never say that) while surfing Current.com, that might work by giving me enough time to read the description or watch the first few seconds without downloading the whole thing as soon as I navigate to the page. I realize the video playing immediately gives instant gratification and keeps it simple, but it doesn't work that well for me. Any suggestions?

  • maybe that's the problem... it's too darn elegant..... i don't know how to say this, hmm it screams old to me!! old and boring, I dunno, maybe it's the green, I don't like green if its not bright (neon). But, oh well. You aint gonna change it just 4 me, anyway...
    jade_azul16
  • LOL, rnaber is the designer, no wonder he thinks its pretty... hahahaha
    jade_azul16
  • it's dead!! give it some energy!
    jade_azul16
  • oh, and on the right side of the player, where the top stories are revealed at the end, well try and show less stories and make the image and the font a little bigger... :)
    jade_azul16
  • for me it is pretty enough! actually it is one of the prettier one I ever seen out there. "Pickiee!"
    stopnoise
  • Is it a great player, or the greatest player?
    media
    sforte
  • well, if that's the best you guys can do.... "nimodo" hahaha personally I am not impressed.I'm not sayin it's ugly, but if you think you've achieved perfection, well.... think again. Lol

Was this site designed for people over 60?? just askin...
    jade_azul16
  • hey covelogibbs -- there's actually a super top secret way you can make video's stop autoplaying. ctower, how's that work? (maybe we should add that to the toolshed page too?)
    danlevine
  • Sforte's video says it all! HA

Hope everyone is enjoying the new and improved Current.com...HOLLA!
    woodywoodbeck
  • is it anyone else having that problem with the "My current" page not being in chronological order anymore? Even within connections they seem to be random.
    brianjhong
  • Thanks Brian, we'll look into it...
    danlevine
  • The video when it is in full screen cuts off parts of the video.
    kaecvtionr
  • Where's the new leaderboard?
    Plisko
  • Where's the new leaderboard and when will voting matter again?
    twodee
  • I think it's back to normal! Woo!
    brianjhong
  • I think it would be cool to see who added you as a connection. Also, I second the disabling auto-play everytime the page is refreshed.
    brianjhong
  • I don't like how the videos autostart now unlike with the old player that would start playing when you actually focus on it.
    TheRealEdwin
  • UNDOCUMENTED API... HOW TO STOP AUTO-PLAY:

add "?SAP=true" to the end of this URL and refresh.

    (Stop Auto Play = true)

    False turns it back on.

    OK GO
    danlevine
  • Where's the all new video leaderboard, and a voting system for videos that actually counts for something?

I thought Current was listening to it's users as to what they wanted?

Once again. All sizzle. No steak.
    zenbeer
  • Full screen mode is great, but it cuts off part of the image. This is not usually a problem, unless there are subtitles. We want to see the whole image, though, so we can see the producers composition. Thanks.
