From Nancy Pelosi's web site: Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to a letter she received late this afternoon from U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey stating that the Administration is refusing to enforce contempt of Congress citations against former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten:
“By ordering the U.S. Attorney to take no action in response to congressional subpoenas, the Bush Administration is continuing to politicize law enforcement, which undermines public confidence in our criminal justice system.
“Anticipating this response from the Administration, the House has already provided authority for the Judiciary Committee to file a civil enforcement action in federal district court and the House shall do so promptly. The American people demand that we uphold the law. As public officials, we take an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect our system of checks and balances and our civil lawsuit seeks to do just that.”

This is why Americans voted for Democrats to lead in 2006. Democratic candidates need to stand behind Nancy Pelosi's efforts. Americans want accountability! In the last paragraph she is 'Speaking for me'!

Nancy Pelosi needs to stand behind OUR efforts as democrats, and IMPEACH the bastards!

I'm really surprised, and glad that she's even doing this, but I'm encouraged that the house is prepared to stand up against Bush's elitist stance.

    How dare he!?!

Hillary and Obama need to stop letting the media control the campaign. They have positions today that would let them control the message from the Senate floor. Democrats voted to give them the majority for accountability, providing checks and balances to this administration.

Talk of the future is easy, when they aren't addressing the actual problems of today! It is many months before the election, they need to campaign using action, not talk. What they do in the Senate floor, in the light of day will be seen by the voters.

Our Democratic Presidential candidates should be talking about this issue today. It's important today! It is going on NOW! Both of our candidates are Senators, with voices NOW! Their campaign should be leading by example from the Senate Floor! Is Nancy Pelosi wrong? Are all the others who are calling for investigations wrong? Are we all wrong? Ignoring us is not the answer. Don’t tell me what you will do for me tomorrow and expect me to ignore what you should be doing today!

Nancy finally got some startch in her underwear allowing her to stand up to Bush. It took long enough. Let's write letters telling them we are behind them on this. Maybe we will get to see Bolten and Meirs arrested.

Holy Mother, the DO NOTHING Speaker has finally made herself useful!!

There is hope for the world yet.
Assuming, that is, the action doesn't get rinsed off down the sink like everything else has over the last 7 years.

She needs to shut up... She is too wishywashy about everything. Untrustworthy party rep! May=be this time she did something to look/sound right... I do not trust her anymore!

No, she should have spoken up a very long time ago. There has been an agonizing wait for Pelosi to do something -*anything* - about the rampaging corruption going on in the WhiteHouse and congress. The fact she has piped up at all comes as a very welcome surprise.

We need an awful lot more where that came from
