A strange package was hand-delivered to Current's SF office on Friday, addressed to me. Here's what was inside. Clues, ideas + suggestions welcome!

(Nice!) -
Duhhh. Should have thought of this immediately: There was something hidden in the ball of yarn. It's a tiny slip of paper with messages on the front and back. -
Here's the site mentioned on the slip of paper. Nothing much there yet.

I'm watching you Sloan...

This gets better and better... -
it's clearly a lost olympic ring from the 1920 games... ;)
-
Sloan - i did a search for that url and found someone else's package detailed on flickr. Same clues as yours except the phrase "curiouser and curiouser" is scribbled on the box.
A quick search finds that phrase is most widely attributed to Alice in Wonderland... as Alice is so surprised that she forgets how to speak proper English. -

Here's what's on Olympic Way.
I guess it shouldn't be surprising, as a) there is no 1920 Olympic Way, and b) it's not even in San Francisco.
On the plus side, I did rent a horse. -
Apart from the tutorial Laurenli linked to, one might want to check out the ARG Quickstart guide Brooke Thompson wrote to get an idea of what might be going on here: http://www.giantmice.com/arg-quickstart/
About 15 people on Unfiction have so far recieved similar boxes. Their reports can be found here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2461...
(I see Sloan already found his way there ;) -
Robin-
1920 Olympic Way is Sanskrit for "Rod Naber". Solved. -
I believe this mystery person has come up with a very clever viral strategy for whatever he/she is promoting.

And this is another character. I love the cross-site clues! Lots more on that forum thread Giskard linked above -- these ARGers are lightning fast.

I had to call in a lot of favors to get something built so quickly... but trust me, you're going to love it, it's exactly what you need. I'll get the guys to work all weekend on it, it should be up first thing Monday morning. Get the video ready, I'm sure someone will recognize you... -- Kai -

It looks like Mia Hanak has something to do with this. I am not saying that I solved the mystery. I do believe that Mia Hanak is behind this. I do not know who she was before right now. -
Hey mjsmith -- how'd you track down the Mia Hanak angle? What's your reasoning? Sorry if I missed something obvious.
-
sloan,
I did a series of crazy google searches based on what I could find through her site. When googleed "Mia Hanak" I knew she had to be behind this. I am not saying I solved the mystery, I am just saying that she is behind it. I just don't have time to get into the specifics, I already spent some time on it already. Just google "Mia Hanak" with the quotation marks and look at the search results. -
Just to add to the references, there's also the wiki at http://olympics.wikibruce.com
keep up the reporting! :) -
Check out the thread over at unfiction.com -- it's where all the action is right now. In particular, note the chat transcript between one of the mystery-solvers and one of the characters...!
-
I have no clue what's going on, but I'm fascinated by it.
