This one has actual Cyndi Lauper in it. I don't pretend to understand the logic behind any of this, but I applaud it.

this is weird and impressive. could anglo saxon americans or african americans impersonate the japanese as accurately?

That is awesome!

@stephenthomson, wasn't the quintessential western movie, 'magnificent seven,' (and the more recent 'a bug's life') based on the akira kurosawa 1954 film, 'seven samurai?' would that count?
and there is the ever very best john belushi, samurai chef!...hai!
here's something good and modern. 'samurai evangelist!'
the only thing with americans impersonating japanese is that they tend to confuse japanese culture, accent, even music, with chinese, perpetuating the notion that 'all asians look...and sound alike.'-

wowzers. I do question the use of 'quest' in the descriptor scott, as that implies that Japan has yet to achieve the status of 'out weirding the planet'
They are the weirdos. They are the weird-ren.-

I dont know any of the references you made pressrecord, but the link you posted is nothing like what we saw in this post. The impersonation as the japanese did it was a very artful, very strict imitation of the real thing, which is diametrically opposed to whatever you'd call your link.

i was trying to answer your question as a 'no'(?) but i meant that jokingly because there's been great american imitations of japanese stuff in the past. particularly, the seven samurai reference.
akira kurosawa is an awesome japanese filmmaker, to say the least. he made a movie back in the black and white days called 'seven samurai' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Samurai ) about 7 rogue misfits who get hired to save the town from tyranny.
the movie, 'magnificent seven' was an imitation of the plot but in the wild wild west. i believe the movie was starred by a bunch of american idols a la 1960 http://imdb.com/title/tt0054047/ ) including yul brunner and charles bronson. like hollywood tough guys grandma was in love with.
you mentioned if americans could imitate japanese accurately and i thought of this example because it wasn't about stereotypes, but archetypes, that were impersonated.-

the link i gave i just did because all the iconic john belushi (saturday night live 70's) samurai chef character are all taken down from youtube by nbc so i posted that one instead (i'm glad you agree it was the opposite of funny).
the john belushi snl skits were real funny: a stereotype character of the rogue samurai in kurosawa's movie...except he's a chef in nyc somewhere, and it was very much in the vain as the comic show posted above (or at least i thought so).
plus, my girl and i watch a lot of japanese comedy and the post above doesn't seem as artful to us. just real stupid funny (but roll on the floor laughing our assess off stupid funny!) especially cindi lauper! she's rad!
i'm wondering if there are any japanese pop icons worth imitating. yoko ono? KITARO! (the japanese john tesh!) *sorry, stephen, these references are like ancient.*-
