Teenagers struggling with English at school often read "lightweight" magazines at home and write essays in the language of text messages, a report found today.

That's pretty ridiculous news. But perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised. Kids are also coming up with a "secret language" based on the wrong words that predictive text comes up with. It's one thing for kids to talk amongst themselves in ways to confuse adults (pig latin was my code of choice until I realized that most people know it too). But when it's actually starting to show up in their essay writing, I think we should be worried.

While writing, I've also been tempted to use text language, after “speaking” like that enough, it becomes a bad habit. This is the age of technology!
