CHAPEL HILL — The woman found shot to death early Wednesday morning near the University of North Carolina campus is the UNC student body president, the police said today.
The dead woman was identified Thursday as Eve Carson, 22, a senior from Athens, Ga.
On Wednesday, police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Davie Circle. Officers found Carson lying in the intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Hillcrest Circle.
The police department has issued an alert for Carson's vehicle that is believed to have been taken during the crime. The vehicle is a blue 2005 Toyota Highlander with Georgia plate AIV-6690.

I hope they find the person and shot him dead.

A few words from Chancellor Moeser at UNC about Eve Carson.

Some footage of students at an afternoon vigil for Carson

I do not believe they allow guns on UNC Campus. If they do, they should turn the school into a "gun-free zone".

I find it interesting when its mentioned she was a student body president. Would this be any less tragic if she wasn't? Headlines should read "Young life taken far too early"...enough said

I wrote this note on my facebook account after the Virginia Tech shootings and think it bears reading now
On Monday we watched an ABC video on The Hajj in one of my classes. Because the city is forbidden to all non-Muslims, ABC had to locate a Muslim reporter and photographer to do the story. The reporter was performing his Hajj on TV for American audiences. When he passed through the gates of the city, he entered a room with some more pilgrims who had made the journey, stripped off all his clothes, including watch, wallet, jewelry, etc...and left clothed in nothing more than two white cloths, as did the others in the room. He then performed his rituals including circling the Great Mosque of Mecca 7 times, and making a journey through the desert. In a later interview, he discussed the roots and reasoning behind the white cloth ritual. Essentially it was a great equalizer; when Muslim pilgrims from around the world gathered in Mecca, this form of dress is used to erase the lines of class, ethnicity, size, education, wealth, your whole identity and for 7 days, just become another Muslim borther/sister among other Muslim brothers and sisters. He said that a walk around Mecca is a journey around the world, but he would never know if the person he shook hands with, passed in the street, or walked next to in the Mosque was a wealthy Saudi oil man or a lowly Indonesian family who had sold their home just to fund the trip to Mecca. It didn't matter, for the time they were there, they were nothing but followers of Allah.
So why am I ranting on about Muslim tradition? I just watched the video of Cho Hui (the VT shooter) on MSNBC today. I know he looks and sounds like an insane maniac, but after listening to his words, I heard a man disgusted with the flaunting of imagery in the world. Disgusted that there are no "genuine people" left in the world, just "look at what I got" everywhere you go. Now I am not saying that possessions are bad, I think this world had many good things that make it better. I just wish we could all take a lesson from the Hajj and accept each other as people. When they dress in the sheets, the heads remain uncovered (well except for the women, but thats another note) so everyone still retains their individual uniqueness, but at the same time, the sheets remind everyone that no matter what, they are still merely followers of Allah. I sometimes wish we could all wear white sheets all day, then you would be forced to really be you! My point is is that people are people, no matter what and while we dont have to be everyone's friend all the time, a handshake and a single good laugh can go a long way. -
more shootings,
they wont stop,
not while we all have guns
and bones to pick.-

this story isn't about gun control stephen... it's about the tragic loss of another young life... quit spitting your anti-gun opinions dude, seriously.
we all know that the world would be a better place without guns... but the fact of the matter is that making them illegal will only make things worse.
watch this video. -
My condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Eve Carson. RIP.

Don't take away people's guns...just prosecute the illegal ones...please don't forget that many shootings and crimes have been thwarted by students with guns. If we lose our right to posess guns, her death is meaningless. Prosecute the cowardly shooters of innocent people, but don't make the innocent guilty of wanting to protect themselves because they know that they are unsafe, and the law cannot protect us every second unless it removes our freedoms completely. If we lose the right to bear arms, we lose our ability to protect ourselves from our government, should it become necessary. My condolences to her family and I hope they catch and prosecute the cowards who shot a vital young woman for her car.

daeggman, I agree with you. In Washington D.C. people are murdered with handguns frequently. For years, even though handguns are illegal there, Washington D.C. was the murder capital for many years. In Maryland similar situation as D.C. They have tough gun laws in Maryland and they have plenty of gun violence. I was being sarcastic in my earlier post. The Virginia Tech Massacre took place on a "gun-free" campus. I live in Virginia. We have our share of gun violence, but nothing on the scale of D.C. or Maryland. In Virginia, people are allowed to have concealed weapons permits. It is very important to enforce gun laws that are on the books. Another problem is that we have so many people in prison in the United States for non-violent crimes. The overcrowded and over burdened prison, probation and parole systems do not have the necessary resources to effectively deal with violent criminals because of the amount of money, resources, and manpower being consumed by dealing with non-violent criminal offenders. I say, let law abiding citizens have guns if the choose, enforce common sense gun-laws, lock up violent criminals, and clear our prison and judicial systems out of non-violent people.
