I had no idea that Judy Blume's book were so controversial and censored, now I have to go read them.
-
i dont think i've ever read a judy blume book, but when i think about them i think "kid book." if parents are freaking out about these books, why not tv, movies, games which are probably far worse than a judy blume book! why arent they just happy their kid is reading instead of rotting their brains out with the other crap out there.

This is a really great short film about a woman that lots of people are familiar with, but probably don't know her as a controversial writer. I'm impressed with the content, but think that a harsher critique of censorship could have been present. However, I did like that you let Ms. Blume tell her story. And for it's length, it's excellent. How about taking on more authors that appear on that list and doing a longer piece!?

Judy Blume??? I had no idea she was a controversial writer! My little sister reads her books all the time! I'm assuming the controversy is linked to mainly her older books, but either way, that's something I'd never heard before!
Great pod and great approach to the story itself!

Wow that's crazy! I remember reading her books when I was young. I still think she's awesome and I think that books shouldn't be censored period! Books are amazing and can teach us a lot of things!

She hit the nail on the head right here:
"If you are trying to protect your children from emotion, how are you preparing them for life." -
First of all, I am a tiny bit biased because I love Judy Blume...however, I have read all of her books, and I read them at a younger age; the age that these parents are complaining about their kids being exposed to these novels. The problem with these complaints against Blume is that these books are harmless...they do mention life circumstances that some very over-protective parents may be afraid of their children knowing. But this is not the right way to raise children. I am obsessed with Blume's quote at the end of this pod... "if you are trying to protect your children from emotion, how are you preparing them for life?"
This is so true, and I hope people against Blume's books can hear that, because it makes so much sense.

yay montana finally got noticed!!! even though we were being assholes.... :(
-
judy blume did more to raise me than my conservative parents (I grew up just hours from Bozeman MT).
thank you Ms Blume, I never did get to tell you that.

This was an awesome resource for my essay about the banning books. I knew that Judy Blume's books were controversial, but I can't believe that people want to ban all her books!

"If you are trying to so protect your child from emotion, how are you preparing them for life?" Good point, Ms. Blume.
Excellent item. I haven't read any of her books but I kinda want to now.

I was hooked on Judy Blume's books as soon as I learned to read and was shocked when I went to my elementary school library and didn't find any of her books in the stacks. This was in the mid-nineties, so hopefully things have changed since then. I'm glad that I was still determined to read her books, though, or else I would've been completely clueless on a lot of sexual issues and personal beliefs.
