Mid-Mo. Spelling Bee ACTION!

  • This pod could benefit from some music. If anyone knows of any good tracks to lay behind it, let us know!

  • loved the kid trying to shake the other kids hand!!

I kinda like it with out music! Ween - ice castle, that would be a weird twist to it!

What about "Home I'll Never Be" by Tom Waits!

  • The kids all did a great job this year! I have attended the last seven years or so worth of bees and it always amazes me at the hard words the kids can spell.

I am proud to be a part of the Fulton Breakfast Optimist Club and this annual sponsored event. Congratulations to each of this year’s contestant’s.

  • Wow, that little moment where the kid tries to shake hands is pretty awkward. Poor kid. Anyway, I liked the subject matter a lot, and the kids are really cute and give some good bites, but I couldn't help but feel that the pod was a little bit disjointed. Maybe if you parallel edited the introductions to the different kids it would make the pod seem smoother and also save some time in leading up to the spelling bee. I was also a bit confused when the first championship was over and then all of a sudden there was another spelling bee; I didn't realize there was a competition for each grade. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention in the intros, but just make sure you're clear that the kids are in different grades and won't be competing in the same bee. You get some really nice shots, though, and the shooting is generally very solid throughout, so nice job. Overall, a nice piece with some sweet moments!

  • With so many things on spelling bees lately (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee/ Spellbound) I think this is a great topic to make a pod on but it also gives you the potential to play around with editing techniques and how you arrange the story. Instead of telling it chronologically, opening with a montage of lil kids attempting to spell might hook a viewer. I did like your approach to profile the kids before the spelling bee. I think Tyler's segment was the best... I definitely got a sense of who he was and his personality. For the girl who always watches the Game Show Network... grabbing footage of her watching and playing along with these shows would have been great.
Otherwise, well done... and the shot of the kid trying to shake hands is priceless!
